Wednesday, May 14th 2003.
Cost: $ 95

We have chosen a number of the best California cabernets and meritages from the '90's to make this a memorable evening. California cabernet prices have exploded in the past few years, and drinking the wines regularly has become cost-prohibitive to all but the last few dot-commers. We are lucky to have had an opportunity to buy many of the wines before the increases so that we can offer them here tonight. We will drink wines from many different appellations in Napa,Sonoma, and Santa Cruz so as to give everyone a better understanding of the varied characteristics of California's terroir.

1995 Philip Togni Spring Mountain (95RP)
1996 Arrowood Reserve Especiale (90RP)
1994 Chateau Montelena Napa Valley (95WS)
1992 Ridge Monte Bello Santa Cruz (94RP)
1997 St. Supery Meritage (91WS)
1994 Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cepages (91WS)
1995 Dehlinger Bordeaux Blend (91RP)
1998 Viader Napa Valley (95WS)
1996 Von Strasser Diamond Mountain (92WS)
1995 Robert Mondavi Private Reserve Napa Valley (94WS)
1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia Napa Valley (96RP)

rigisch,

Wow. A formidable lineup.
Enjoy!

Only one comment.
I've always been told that Togni wines don't begin to come into their prime drinking window for at least 10 years. If so, is the 95 really a good candidate for this event?

Budman,

No doubt the Togni will drink young. So will the Von Strasser and possibly the Ridge, even from the 92 vintage.

We try to give people an opportunity to drink great wine but serving all of them at peak is virtually impossible. Therefore, our tastings give people a chance to drink great wines at all stages in their development.

Steve
