| My wife and I and two out-of-towners are heading up to Barrel Tasting weekend in Sonoma (March 3-5).
I was hoping for recommendations for wineries to visit on Friday (only some wineries are pouring on Friday as part of the official weekend.
The full list is available here:
http://www.wineroad.com/events/2006-Barrel-Tasting-Info.pdf
The wineries that I was considering are:
David Coffaro Amphora Passalacqua Unti Talty Balletto Battaglini Christopher Creek Davis Bynum Hop Kiln
but I will take advice on any of the wineries pouring on Friday.
Any suggestions/advice is much appreciated...
Thanks, jeff | | | |

| | IMHO, Hop Kiln is kind of a yawner. Their wines are just OK... | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com | |

| Looks like most of the better wineries aren't pouring on Friday. Note that just because a winery isn't officially participating in the Wine Road on Friday doesn't mean you can't visit. Here is a suggested itinerary. This assumes you like pinot and zin.
Morning in RRV Martinelli (first stop on River Rd., might as well stop since driving right by) Joe Swan Hartford Court (they don't require appointments, and at least you can bottle taste) Porter Creek Rochioli (also don't require appointments)
Lunch in Healdsburg (perhaps hit Rosenblum tasting room right off main square next to Oakville Grocery)
Afternoon in Dry Creek: Unti Amphora Papapietro Perry Rafanelli (just make an appointment, you can bottle taste)
Hope this helps. | | | |

| I suggest Ravenous for that lunch in Healdsburg. Hartford Court, Porter Creek and Rochioli are must stops for us every time we are up that way.
If you drop Dan Kosta a note I bet you can do some barrel samples on Friday (or Saturday) with him. While they aren't part of the event....you can't find a better stop in Sonoma County for the quality of the wine and the education.
