I'm writing to update everyone on the Second Annual "Pinot on the River" event happening this month in the Russian River Valley, and to let you know that tickets are going fast for this very limited attendance Pinot weekend. Check out the list of more than 60 participating Pinot wineries below -- it includes many small, artisanal Pinot producers you simply can't taste in any one location.

We've got some exciting things planned, and I urge anyone serious about Pinot Noir to attend, even if you only have time on Sunday, the big walkaround tasting is a bargain at $49. PinotReport is a sponsor and organizer of "Pinot on the River" and I've provided updated event information below. Please reply to this post or email me directly at gswalter@pinotreport.com if I can answer any questions, or visit www.pinotfestival.com for more information.

Let me say that last year this event was among the top three events Tricia and I attended. It goes without saying that the wines (literally hundreds of Pinots) were fantastic. But putting the event in the great atmosphere of Guernville and exquisite wine dinners with some of the best pairings I have ever had made this event for us a "must do". I highly recommend it for any Pinot-nut. It would also be great for those that have not yet discovered this ultimate* nectar of the Gods Pinot Noir.

*Well, second to Chateau d'Yquem I guess.

Saying that it is with deep regret that Tricia and I will not be able to attend this year. Believe me it is not because we don't want to. Bummer for us; More Pinot for you!

David:
Thanks for your kind words. Full disclosure in mind (I am the co-sponsor and co-organizer) I can honestly say that the "Artisanal Pinot Noir Tasting" on Sunday, Oct. 30, is a true bargain -- 60+ serious Pinot producers for $49 a ticket! Even if you can't do the whole weekend, if any of you Pinot lovers (or prospective Pinot lovers) have that day open, it's going to be a great tasting!

Thanks! Of course, I'm biased, but the Sunday tasting is really a bargain and should not be missed by anyone who wants to taste some great Pinots in one place that's not a "cattle call" event -- 60+ producers with probably no more than 300 people attending.

Like DavidN, I attended last year as well. The event was extremely well organized, the wines excellent, the food well-matched, and most importantly to me, I had the opportunity to get to know many of the winemakers.

All that being said, the greatest enjoyment I received from the event was spending time with other fellow wine and food lovers like David and Trish. I am going to miss David and Trish (and whatever he would have had in the trunk of his car to share) very much this year. I had planned to reciprocate and infiltrate the Pinot party with a few bottles of Bordeaux for that change of pace.

My wife and I arrive Thursday and are staying at the Retreat for the duration. Look us up. We would love to meet you. We shouldn't be too hard to find. There probably won't be anyone else from Plano, TX, there.

Here's to the corkscrew - a useful key to unlock the storehouse of wit, the treasury of laughter, the front door of fellowship, and the gate of pleasant folly.
