Cruise with Cardinale, Lokoya and Chappellet Oh My...

and Master Somm Bob Bath too. Christopher Carpenter, who is the winemaker for Cardanalle and Lokoya, will be there. I don't know if another KJ person will be there too and I do not know who would be coming from Chappellet (although I could guess).

Board the ship in Stockholm on 8/12/05 and spend the night in port for a full day 8/13/05 in Stockholm. Depart 4:00pm.

8/14 Helsinki
8/15 Tallinn

8/16 (Tuesday) arrive in St. Petersburg 8am. Spend three days in St. Petersburg leaving 8/18 (Thursday) at 6:00pm.

As an aside... One of the craziest things I have ever done was as the ship was leaving S.P. a group of us waved at the border guards. We were all decked out in the things that we had smuggled aboard and were supposidly illegal to take out of the country.

8/19 Cruising the Baltic.
8/20 Warnemunde for Berlin.
8/21 Cruising the Baltic.

8/22/05 (Monday) arrive Copenhagen at 8:00am and spending that day and night in Copenhagen. 8/23/05 AM Disembark.
=============================================

Includes "exclusive cocktail party", wine seminars, wine tastings, the old Riedel demonstration, two "exclusive" wine dinners and a "private" caviar tasting in addition to all the normal activities.

Air fare is not included.

The ship is a very nice ship; The Crystal Symphony.

Pricing per person double occupancy starts at $3995 and goes up through seven catagories topping out at $22,385 ( per person). If we were going (which we are not) we would probably go for catagory A9 (fourth down from the best) at $6400 each.

Like I just said... we are not going to be able to attend... but it does sound interesting.

Ahoy

David,

If you ever have a chance to do something with Bob Bath run, don't walk. He's the real deal: great wine knowledge and a genuinely nice guy.

Bob Bath would indeed be the highlight of the trip. I'm just not sure I could drink the Cardinale and keep a straight face.

I saw this somewhere and I thought it was expensive (it really is). We just got back from doing a similar cruise - 10 day Princess cruise starting in Copenhagen, then to Tallinn (Estonia), St Petersberg (2 days - this is critical), Helsinki, Stockholm, Gdansk (Poland - great city!!!), Warnemunde (3 hr train ride to Berlin), then back to Copenhagen. We had the best room with a balcony that is just below the suites so we had great cabins. Cost was $3900 including airfare (which is very very expensive to Europe this summer since everyone is traveling).

The kids came with us (they had their own cabin) and we had a great time. St. Petersberg (our dream as been to see the Hermitage) is a must see. Peterhof (modeled after Versailles) is more impressive than Versailles in our opinion and Catherine's Palace is almost as impressive. It would have been nice to be in St. Petersberg longer than 2 days, but they do have tours that pack in a lot. I liked Berlin next (Pergammon is another "must see"). Gdank, Poland was a pleasant surprise. Not quite a medival city (like Tallinn), but if you like Rothenberg, Germany (which is claimed to be the best preserved medival city), you will like Tallinn and especially Gdansk. I did not like Copenhagen in the beginning (we went a day earlier so I could do a business visit) since the top attractions (Tivoli, Little Mermaid) are vastly overrated. But the rest of the city is wonderful. Rothenberg Castle is a treat. As opposed to most castles where you have barriers, you can walk through this like you live there (expect for the guards and a couple of side rooms that is sealed in glass (due to all of the dishes and silverware). The crown jewels are there and that is always a treat. The one thing that we learned through our travels is that whenever you see "treasury" in Europe, you want to go there. The treasury is where they store the crown jewels and all of the valuables.

It would be nice to have a wine theme on a cruise, but to be honest, you are so busy that you do not have the time. We only had one day "at sea" (the first day) so the rest of the days we were on land excursions trying to get in all of the sights. We were exhausted and need a vacation from our vacation.
