It may be cold outside, but things are heating up at Galileo. Chef Roberto

With Special Guest Lecturer
Gastone Zampieri, Italian Wine Specialist, Winebow Inc.

Join Chef Roberto Donna and Italian Wine Expert Gastone Zampieri on this
exploration of the foods and wines of Italy. Each class will take you from
Italy's vineyards to its kitchens as you learn about the various wines and
wine regions of Italy and enjoy a cooking demonstration and unique cheese
pairing by Chef Roberto Donna.

This unique program will take place in Roberto's showcase kitchen
Laboratorio del Galileo. All classes take place from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
and include lunch.


February 8
Barolo - The "Mystical" Wine - A Vertical Tasting

Learn about the mystique of this delectable wine what sets it apart from
other Italian reds. In this class you will learn about the making of Barolo
and the three different areas where it is grown. Learn how each region
produces a Barolo with very different characteristics.


March 8
Barbaresco - The Beauty of Nebbiolo - A vertical tasting

In this class you will not only learn about the wine, but also the history
of Barbaresco, and the reason why this one region is so important, from its
history to its climate to its soil.


March 15
Introduction to Italian Wines "The Big Boot" - Part I

In this class you will learn about Italian wine making laws,
classifications, climates, vinification, the history of Italian wines, the
wine making process, and how to understand Italian wine labels.


March 22
Introduction to Italian Wines "The Big Boot" - Part II

In this class you will learn about the various Italian wine regions and
different wines produced in those regions. You will discover new wines and
learn about the differences in the regions from the north to the south.


March 29
Understanding Dessert Wines from Italy - Sweet or not Sweet?

In this class you will taste a range of dessert wines including: Vin Santo
(fruity), Passito (sweet, but not too sweet), Muscato grape based wines such
as Muscato D'arancio, and more. The wines in this class will be from
Tuscany, Sicily, Veneto, Puglia and Calabria.


April 19
Spring Wine's from the Italian Peninsula and the Islands

In this class you will explore wines from Sicily, Sardinia (Soaves and Pinot
Grigio). These wines are well balanced for warmer weather.


April 26
Chardonnay - See what you've been missing!

In this class you will taste new, young Chardonnays and move to older oak
aged Chardonnays. The wines in this class will be from Piedmont, Tuscany,
Veneto, and Sicily and you will learn to taste the different characteristics
of this one grape from region to region.


May 10
Barbera - A "New Classic"

Taste the new and old varieties of Barbera. You will learn how old style
Barberas can be enjoyed young, and also taste wines with no oak aging, and
some older oak aged wines. The tasting will take you from lighter Barberas
to fuller, richer varieties.

Thursday classes and those are practically full as well. There are still a

We know that it sometimes difficult to get a reservation in Roberto's
Laboratorio, but here's some good news. We have space in the lab next week!
If you have any special occasions or celebrations coming up or just want to

Coppo Wine Dinner at Laboratorio del Galileo

Thursday, February 6, 7:00 PM. Winemaker, Paolo Coppo joins Chef Roberto
Donna for a special evening of food and wine. Coppo wines are produced in
Roberto's native Piedmont Region of Italy in the city of Asti. The Coppo
family, now in its 4th generation, is well known in Italy for their fine
wines. This 5-Course Italian Wine Dinner is $110/person inclusive of tax and
gratuity (Cash bar 6:30-7:00 pm.)

Vivo Wine Dinners

Winter/Spring 2003

Join Chef Roberto Donna for VIVO'S exciting wine dinner series featuring
five-course menus with complementing wines and an exclusive line up of wine
experts and guest chefs. Each event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar,
followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. The cost for each dinner is $75 per person
inclusive of wines, tax and tip.

Tuesday, February 18 - Featuring Chef Claudia Madsen of the Australian
Embassy and Australian Wines from The Grateful Palette and Henry Wine Group.

Monday, March 24 - Featuring Chef Melissa Close of Palladio Restaurant at
Barboursville Vineyards and the Wines of Barboursville Vineyards.

Tuesday, April 22 - Featuring a menu created to pair with the wines of The
Great Italian Estates of Clicquot. Special Guest, Pascal Salvadori of
Clicquot, Inc.

Tuesday, May 20 - Featuring Mediterranean Cuisine from Liguria, Sicily and
Sardinia, and a selection of Wines to complement the five-course menu.
Special Guest, Gastone Zampieri of Winebow, Inc.
