| The Greater New York Wine & Food Expo will be October 30th & 31st at the Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown, NY. From the website: Quote:
The Greater New York Wine & Food Expo will feature over 250 exhibits in the Grand Tasting Tent. Wineries and spirit producers from around the world will pour over 1,000 wines and spirits for you to sample. Other exhibits will feature food products and wine accessories
The website is up, but the list of exhibitors and guests has not been updated. This is an easy spot to get to from NYC, northern NJ, and lower Fairfield County, CT.
$65 for one day, $88 for both days.
This is my first time entering something onto the calendar, so hopefully I haven't screwed it up. | | |

| My wife and I are probably going. Lyndhurst is 35 - 40 minutes from where I live. (We actually took our wedding pictures on the property). Also, the price seems reasonable. I know that they won't be serving Screagle, but there should be some decent wine/food to try. | | | |

| This is about 9 miles from my house, and, ironically, I will be in Napa. | | | |

| I would certainly make a point to see Peter X. Kelly's demonstration. Fabulous chef with a great personality, and will definitely give you a good impression of lower Hudson Valley contemporary cuisine. | | | |

| So, tomorrow this will be my first offline after all these years after being a home and restaurant drinker. I'm not sure how many of you will be there, but I'd love to meet some of you if possible. If there is a public address system, page "Dick Bonder" and I'll share a glass with you.

| Sorry to miss you and the event, Dick. We'll be at a Bar Mitzvah in NYC. Have a great time and post notes. | | | |

| Likewise. I attended on Saturday with my bride and my son and daughter-in-law. My son has only recently acquired a taste for wine and I am very excited for him since he seems to have a very sensitive uneducated palate where every taste is a new adventure for him. For example, he pointed out that a particular cab had a smoky flavor to him. He had never heard the term.....he made it up.... and lo, the wine had a smoky attack to it. At this early stage, he is like a babe in toyland.
The Wine and Food Expo was a misnomer. There was minimal food, and long lines to obtain a little taste of whatever was being offered. The place was mobbed and chaotic. I loved it all. Most of the people there were not serious drinkers of wine and they were fun to watch and be with. Overall, the wines were disappointing with a few exceptions. California was terribly unrepresented and the distributors presented wines which were mostly obscure and unremarkable. One exception was the Gainey (2001 or 2002?) merlot which was the hit of our group. Guigal CNdP was pouring the 2001 and 2003, both of which were very good. The predominant country represented was Italy and I was fortunate enough to sample several good amarones, some sangiovese, and some SuperTuscans. Portugal, Chile, Bulgaria, Greece,Australia and the Republic of Georgia were also represented. Conspicuously absent was New Zealand and Spain. There were an inordinate number of NY Fingerlake wines(but, of course), but strangely little from Long Island. I tried to concentrate on cab francs here, but found nothing to distinguish itself.
My first real tasting, my first opportunity to spit on the grassy floor, much to the dismay of my company. I paid for it later when I knelt to tie a shoe and planted my knee right in someone else's expectoration to the delight of my family.
Now, I am ready for a tasting of some good wines. The local Hotel DuPont has been having some fine wine dinners and I have been going to most of them, but an intimate dinner with my beloved tasting wines from the same winery all evening and eating gourmet food is not the same as sitting with my peers(you guys) and tasting and comparing notes.
I don't know if I would return to the New York Wine and Food Expo next year. It was a little commercial, underrepresented by the industry, and hokey and there were too many wines I would have spit out even if it was the only wine on my table.
