'03 Olson Ogden barrel tasting in Sonoma

My partner, Tim Olson, and I are going to be sampling our 03s in barrel at the winery on Friday July 30th around 12:30 pm to 2 pm. We will be checking the progress of our 03 Unti Vineyard Syrah and 03 Sonoma Co. Syrah blend. Anyone who is in the Bay area and would like to stop by for a taste, we would welcome you coming by for a sampling. We will probably open a bottle of our 02 Unti Syrah for comparison. We custom crush at Hunter Wine Cellars at the corner of Occidental and 116 in Sebastopol. We are in the same building as Tandem just on the opposite corner of the building. If I could get a show of hands to gauge interest so we could plan ahead, that would be great.

I'd love to stop by John but I won't be in the area that day. I want to try your Unti Syrah. I'm a fan of Mick Unti's wines so I'd love to try your wine as well.

There should be a few other opportunities to taste the barrels in the coming months. I know we will probably bottle before the 04 harvest (they are saying earlier than last year...late Sept./early Oct.) just like we did with the 02 vintage but don't have an exact bottling date just yet. Probably the best thing to do is just email me (john@olsonogdenwines.com) the next time you have plans to come up and we will see if we can work something out. Tim lives right by the winery so even if I can't make it, if Tim is not busy with his day job we could coordinate something. Andrew, I have not tasted the 03s in a couple of months now but I think you are right and here is how I know. Tim went to a small tasting the Unti's put together for all of the wineries that buy grapes from them. Everyone brought a bottle or two of their Unti wine. Tim brottle a barrel sample of the 03 and by all accounts it was a real hit with everyone . Tim was very psyched to get that kind of feedback from our peers. It is definitely different than the 02, not as muscular or bold...more finesse. I am looking forward to seeing how it has evolved over the months. Hope a few people can make it up!

I should be able to make it. I gotta be over at Zazu for work at 2:30. So showing up for some tasting before then wouldn't be out of the way at all.
