Teri and I have been every year but one, and won't miss this year! Who else is going? Davidn? Maybe we can arrange a wine dinner that night?

I take it this an invitation only event?

If we organize a nice off-line around this, I could be persuaded to head down the 101 for the weekend.

I think you just have to be on the Clos Pepe mailing list, which is still open.

Yes, it is an invitation only event, and actually the mailing list is full - has been for some time now. However:

Quote:

1) Each Allocation member can invite 3 friends, or basically 2 couples per. Your friends WILL be able to order wine as futures, just the same way you can, but only from 2 pm to 5pm on August 21st. If you have a slightly larger group of friends that are very interested in our wines, feel free to email me and we'll see if we can accommodate them all, but please try to limit attendees to 2 couples (4 people) per Allocation List member.

So NCVL, let me know if you are interested - I'd be happy to invite you and Mrs. NCVL

SFWine, last year we went to dinner with Davidn at The Brother's at Mattie's Tavern - it was terrific, perhaps a repeat this year with those interested?

Eric, are you sure the list is full? I joined less than a year ago. If it is full, I feel lucky to have gotten in when I did!

Yep, I don't recall when it closed, but it closed some time ago. Great allocation list to be on SF, you won't be sorry you joined

Tricia and I are there! And the Brother's is a must. I'm sure we could do an offline there.

Brian, It would be my pleasure if you and Laurie would be my guests for dinner that evening at Brother's? Only request; some barrel samples.

It was last year that the Terri, Eric and I unscrewed the yahoo bottle samples and blended them at the table. The waiter had no idea what to do about corkage. It was great.

I would love to join in on an offline. I love the food at Brothers. I had a terrific veal chop last time.

Although the list is closed. There is one way to scoot past the wait list and get on the mailing list. Any guest who orders a full allocation at the BBQ is automatically on the list. Full allocation consists of one case of Pinot, one bottle of Vigneron Select Pinot, and five bottles of "Hommage to Chablis" (unoaked Chard.). Total cost is $495 plus tax and shipping.

I go solo each year so if anyone wants to be my guest, let me know.

For those of you not familiar with Wes' wines and the BBQ, here's the skinny. If you've had Brian Loring or Adam Lee's (Siduri) Clos Pepe Pinots you know how special this vineyard is. Two tons per acre would be a bumper crop! I think there was about 3/4 tpa in `02. Unlike Adam and Brian, Wes uses exclusively 115 clone for his wine, so you have to be patient. On the bright side, the BBQ offers attendees the opportunity to taste every wine Wes has made, so you can see how they are developing. I've bought a full allocation every year and have only opened one of 12 `00 Pinots, one of four `00 Vigneron Select Pinots, no `01 Pinots of any kind, and one of 12 `02 Pinots. I haven't opened any of my "Hommage to Chablis".

Wes' wines have great aging potential.

NCVL, You come along with us and don't buy anything. You're stuck with just tasting Wes's wines (and a ton of others) for free. But you will have to pay your way at the offline that night.

There will also be a byo Rhone blind tasting at the BBQ:
Quote:

This year's theme is old Rhones and bottle-aged New World wines from Rhone grape varietals. We ask those with good cellars (or, hell, those with a stack of good wine tucked in a closet somewhere) to bring a bottle of red or white Rhone wine from 1998 or before. You may bring either Old World (e.g. Hermitage, Cote-Rotie, Condrieu) Rhones, or New World (Syrah/Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre, Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, etc. from U.S, Australia, South America--heck maybe even Texas!), or even Old World wine made from Rhone-style varietals (Priorat comes to mind). We'll separate the whites and the reds, taste them all blind, and make guesses to what we're drinking and which are our favorites. Remember, though! The wines have to be from 1998 or before. If you don't have any old Rhone-ish wine, don't sweat it. There will be plenty to go around.

Brian, you have to be there! Ok, ok - if you can't come we'll take Kimberly instead
