I'll drink to that!

Seriously, it seems to be a matter of drinking enough to get the benefits of the resveratrol but not too much as to be harmed by the alcohol.

What Tim said, most of these studies are done with a light/ moderate amount of wine.

Most (all?) of the resveratrol studies are in vitro, hard to know how to extrapolate to effects of wine drinking.

I'm just happy that light or moderate wine drinking is at the very least "not harmful". If it becomes widely accepted by the medical community that resveratrol is really beneficial, I'll take a daily pill. (Again, if it's widely proven to have good effects). But like I say, I'm glad to continue to read reports of, dare I say, healthful benefits. Sure beats being on the other side of the coin like having a habit of cigarette smoking.

Yep, light to moderate wine (alcohol) drinking shows benefits in most studies. As far as I can tell from the articles to date, resveratrol-related benefits don't seem to be produced by moderate wine consumption, but it's great that there are other benefits.

There is a company working on why resveratrol produces beneficial effects at the sub-cellular level.  It's been a while since i read about them so I forget the name but iirc, they were looking at the effects on mitochondrial rna.  If they isolate the receptor of the positive effects, then they will run screens for more effective compounds than resveratrol.  Once they find one that is safe and works, then we can start thinking about a pill.

Until then: L'Chaim and drink up!
