I think you are tinking of Sarafornia JB. It is across the street and down one or two doors from All Seasons Bisto (right near Washington, the only stop light in town). I had breakfast there last Sunday.

We had breakfast there last time we were in Calistoga as well. Overall, I was a little disappointed in the breakfast, but the pancakes were good and the burgers at the next table looked great!

Taylor's Refresher.

Oh my gosh!

Napa version of a Philly Cheesesteak, awesome onion rings and a Black & White milkshake. $20. Amazing.

Culinary Institute. Nice meal. Nice service. Nice wine. Nice place.
Nice. Not spectacular. I enjoyed Taylor's Refresher much much more.

For breakfast while in the valley (not that the mornings there have been numerous) I really enjoyed Gordon's in Yountville.

Never been to Pere Jeanty but can ditto the Bistro Jeanty recommendation. The tomato soup is a MUST!

And for dessert... the CREPE!

I think I will have a heart attack the day Bistro Jeanty alters its menu.

Last time I ate there I came to realize that the food isn't exactly great... just simply good. Even for french bistro stuff.

I will be dining at Terra on Monday and Market on Tuesday. Can't wait. I have been to Market, but I have not had the opportunity to go to Terra.

Yep, that's the place, skwid. Really good omelet with applewood sausage when I was there last year. Loved the place.

Had an excellent dinner Friday night at Cindy's. Paired well with 2 Bressler's

Saturday night at Angele. Good service, very good food. Not on the bleeding edge, but really great quality, all the flavors were well balanced, service was quite good without being obsequious.

Had dinner at the Martini House last night. I ordered their Braised Kobe Beef... Damn was it good! My wife said I didn't say a word the entire meal, but had a huge smile on my face after every bite. Everyone in our party said their food was fantastic. We will definately return.

I told the manager how pleased I was with my entree, and he said they were trying to pull it from the menu, but that is was a very popular meal. I think I threatened him with bodily harm if he took it off the menu.

We had dinner last night at Stomp, the brand new restaurant where Catahoula used to be in Calistoga. It is owned and operated by Robert Simon who also runs Bistro 45 in Los Angeles. They have lots of starters and everyone gets share plate. When you order a bunch of starters, they bring them out in waves, so they don't get cold (or warm, I guess) as you try them all. Excellent food and a very nice wine list (OK, Bressler is on it - but it is still a nice wine list).

They have a very large number of wines by the glass - either 2 or 5 ounce pours. Great for trying new wines.

On Friday night I had one of the best dinners I've ever had in the Napa Valley. It is a small out-of-the-way place in an old strip-center in Napa City.

Foothill Cafe
2766 Old Sonoma Rd in Napa

Everytime I mentioned that I had gone there to a "native" up there they asked, "How did you find out about that place. This place is a local's secret". I gotta say this chef, who has owned the place for 20+ years, is a master at his craft. Great food and reasonable prices.

There is very little on the web but here are the vitals:

Description: From the outside, the strip mall location of Foothill Cafe can be off-putting. Inside, however, is a Napa jewel and a real favorite of locals. Owner/chef Jerry Shaffer keeps it fresh, real and simple.

Price Range: $15-25

Address:
2766 Old Sonoma Road
Napa , CA 94558
Phone: 707 252 6178

Business Hours:
4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wed. to Sun.

Dress Code: Casual
Reservations
Credit Cards Accepted
Parking

Recommended Dishes:
Oak-roasted prime rib, pan-roasted black pepper and ginger-crusted salmon, desserts.
-------------

I had the prime rib and it was as good as it gets. We also had a teaser of the BBQ ribs and they were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place...but keep it a secret.

Foothill used to be run by a couple - where the other half was Kelley Novak (daughter of the Spottswoode folks). They have since split and Kelley opened Kelley's No Bad Days Café in Napa. Surprise - same ribs and same calamari. Lots of Thai influence dishes.

Both are recommended!

Foothill rocks. I''ll pimp those guys to anyone who'll listen, but they never go there. To each their own, for my money, you can't do better in Napa. I'd eat there over Martini House or any other big boy in the valley.

went to Stomp for the first time on Friday. Quite good and worth going back to to try again.

Auberge du Soleil on Saturday night was a travesty. Poor in every since of the word. Joseph Humphrey is the new chef. He needs to rethink his entire menu from theory to execution.
