| We do not have a thread dedicated to NYC Hotels as of yet so I thought I would start one.
During my last visit to NYC forum members were kind enough to recommend the following hotels:
The StanHope (5th Ave @ 81st) Essex House Marriott Eastside (53rd and Lexington) On The Avenue (2178 Broadway) Washington Jefferson Hotel (318 W. 51st Street) Abingdon Guest House (13 Eighth Avenue)
I ended up staying at The StanHope and would very much endorse it. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. |

| Having said all of the above now it is time to start looking for a hotel for my upcoming trip. My client is in Brooklyn where I can stay at the Comfort Inn. I'd rather stay in Manhattan someplace closer to the action but have to keep the price the same as if I were staying in Brooklyn. This trip is very much business other than the two offlines I've planned with forum members; no Mrs WIML this time. Basic business hotel works.
Has anybody ever stayed at or have information on any of the following hotels?
Clarion Park Ave (429 Park Ave) Murray Hill Inn (143 E. 30th) Thirty Thirty Hotel (30 E. 30th) West Park (308 W. 58th) Radio City Suites (142 W. 49th) Mayfair New York (242 W. 49th) Metropolitan Hotel Wolcott (4 W. 31st) Cosmopolitan Hotel (95 W. Broadway) Southgate Tower (371 7th Ave) Eastgate Tower (222 E. 39th) Shelburne Murray Hill (303 Lexington) Holiday Inn Broadway (49 W. 32nd St) Holiday Inn Midtown (440 W. 57th)
All information is welcome such as area of town where they are located is desirable, plenty of good restaurants in the area, easy walk to the train station, anything you can help with.
Thanks in advance for any help you can render. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| | Eastgate Tower is part of what used to be the Manhattan East Suites group, now called Affina. I've stayed in several of their other hotels and like them very much. Of course, when traveling with wife and child, I always try to get a suite and these were right on the mark. If they are the same as they used to be, you should find it very comfortable. | | | |

| | Actually ttepper all of the hotels I listed are at or below the pre-paid Internet rate for the Comfort Inn in Brooklyn. That is why I posted the list; hoping somebody could give me a clue if they are any good. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| | What about the Edison Hotel at 228 W. 47th (west of B-way)? I have stayed there numerous times and I found it quite nice. | | | |

| The Edison is 150.00 a night prepaid; certainly good by NYC standards.
The Plaza. Who wouldn't want to stay there? Way too much dough for this trip. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| | The Washington Jefferson Hotel on W. 51st has an average nightly rate of $115.00 a night on www.hotels.com. Hasn't somebody stayed there before? I feel like I should jump on this one. Anybody have any comments? | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| The Hudson Hotel has very good corporate rates (all Gap Company employees are required to stay at the Hudson) and the bar action is first rate.
The St. Regis is where I stayed last month. Its worth the cash and one can get a great deal on it at luxurylink.com.

| | Just down the street from the Holiday Inn on 32nd is the Red Roof Inn which I stayed at when I went to NYC in May. It was a cheap (by Manhattan standards) no frills hotel at $100/night. The ameneties are rather spartan so don't expect much. It is a couple of doors away from 5th Ave on 32nd. | | | |

| | The Metropolitan is what was the Loews at 52 or 53 and Lex, right? It is still owned by Loews and my wife and I stayed there on a visit last year (we had previously been long-time Manhattan residents but had moved out a few years ago). A friend of ours works for Loews so we got a very low rate. The hotel is pretty nice and we had a nice sized room and apparently got bumped to business class so got breakfast and drinks in the evening in the business lounge which is on the top floor and which if you know about it, can go to no matter where you are staying. Anyway, they renovated it, but it still is slightly dated. Its a good location and if you get a good deal is not a bad option. Won't blow anyone away, but is certainly not bad. | | | |

| IMO: The Hudson is too trendy by half, with the smallest rooms in the city. For the same price, you get the same effect with larger rooms at the W Times Square and W on Lex (@ 50th).
The St. Regis is worth every penny. And make no mistake, it is alot of pennies.
The Eastgate Suites is nice for the price, but in a "nothing" neighborhood.
I've gotten very good rates ($175 or less) at the Warwick, and been given huge suites for no extra charge at check-in. (54th and 6th)
The Plaza Athenee is usually listed in the "luxury" category on most lists, but I have gotten sub-$200 rooms that were excellent.
The Plaza often has specials, but beware. You will get a small room with an interior view. Yes, it is the Plaza, but if you are sleeping in a closet with no view, what's the point. For less money, you can get a better room around the corner at the Westin Essex House. (Home to Alain Ducase).

| The Essex House is very nice - very pretty rooms with nice decor and excellent room attendants and service. I love the art deco architecture and decorations all through the lobby. The meeting room we were in was just beautiful.
The staff at the front desk, however, was snooty (read, borderline rude, like it was an imposition to deal with me) every time I stopped there for messages or questions. Male or female, day or night. They all had an attitude behind the front desk.
I hear some hotels in NYC are like this. Purposefully rude. I don't get it. And I won't go back there again, no matter how nice the room was. There are too many other places who aren't like this and who actually act like I'm a guest. (go figure)
Perhaps it's different now. I don't want to give it a bad rep based on my one-time stay. Just be forewarned.

| | I stayed at the Washington Jefferson this time (W 51st between 8th and 9th). In general I would not recommend it unless you're a college student or a single business person on a per diem with no intention of spending any time in the room except to sleep. The rooms are clean and newly remodeled but very small and noisy. I would definitely not go back with my wife; not the proper atmosphere. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| I have stayed at The Essex House, The Meridian, The Royalton, St Regis, The Soho Grand, The W, The W Tuscany, The Plaza, The Beekman Towers, The Trump Towers, The Mayflower and others I cannot remember. All were okay except The Plaza, for obnoxious attitude, The Trump Towers, for sterility and the Mayflower, for creepiness. I like the Soho and the Tuscany best.
