A nice story, I even heard violins playing in the background.

Nash is a good guy. His girlfriend is the wine buyer for the Plumpjack group and they are a cool couple. Can't wait to try out the new Tra Vigne as I gave it up 7-8 years ago.

Foothill Café was a small tucked-away little restaurant in west Napa near the outlets. It was a great place to get ribs. Unfortunately, the new owners under estimated the amount of working capital needed and it is closing. Too bad.

Can you get the same ribs at Never A Bad Day (or whatever it is called)?

Napa trip last weekend;

Friday Dinner;
All Seasons Café, Calistoga – Good, but we just kept getting the impression it should have been executed a little better.

Saturday & Monday Lunch;
Taylor’s Refresher, St. Helena – First time here and met all expectations. Best burger I’ve ever had. It was even better with the 2003 Lewelling Cab we brought with us from our tasting visit.

Saturday Dinner;
Mustards, Yountville - Good, but the place was a madhouse, even for a Saturday night.
I doubt I’ll be coming back here again.

Sunday Lunch;
Bistro Don Giovanni, Napa – Excellent. We ate here after my wife finished the marathon. She had a burger which was really good. The pizza kept the kids happy. My mother and I had some really good salmon.

Sunday Dinner;
Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen, St. Helena – Excellent. Cozy and very relaxed. Kid friendly (actually every place we went was kid friendly ). The duck tostada followed by the duck burger is the way to go!!

Monday Dinner;
Market, St. Helena – Excellent. A bit of a surprise. Food quality was very high and tasty. Best desserts of the weekend.

ALHooKoo:
When you said, "We ate here after my wife finished the marathon" - I was already thinking from your post,
"Napa Valley is a great place for marathons - the running type and feasting type!"

I am on a constant diet from my business trips to Napa Valley (and Sonoma and Monterey and Santa Barbara - yikes!).

You got that right!!

One of the reasons I enjoy riding my bike for 2-4 hours at a time is building a big appetite,
so I can eat alot!!

New Restaurant opened in Napa on March 19th. BarBerQ's. It's in the Bel Air Plaza on Trancas. Same shopping center as Target and Orchard supply. it's in the back by Copperfields books.

BBQ food is OFF the HOOK, and a great wine list. They have this smoker in the kitchen that makes an Escalade look like a Ford Pinto.

Chef is Steve Barber, Owner is Gene Tartaglia. Both previously at Mecca.

Skippy, can you please update your user profile by clicking on FirstN LastN at the top right corner of your screen (just under "Search")? Then put Skippy (or whatever) in the first name field and something, anything in the last name field. Then we will know you as Skippy again.

Click on the name on the left side of post to go to their profile, it lists the (so-called) display name.

I will wax poetic about the meal at TFL soon, perhaps this weekend. I think it calls for the whole story and setting and everything. If I start now, I know I'll be up for three hours typing up a mega-long post. But, man alive, this place is truly a temple of food.

But, the whole TFL experience was sandwiched between a dinner the night before at The Martini House (upstairs) and a dinner after the whole TFL lunch at Terra.

Martini house really delivered. A bit pricier than I expected but the food was very good, the atmosphere very relaxed but still elegant and with a hint of rusticity than made it feel like 'wine country' to me. It seemed to me that many of the folks dining there were locals, too. It was a Thursday night and it was full up and late. We left around 11pm and there were still lots of people there. Glad we had a ressie.

Terra....Wonderful, wonderful food. A great meal with some fun discussion with the sommelier and our wait-dude. We also spied a table where one of the folks who worked there was treating his family that was in from out of town for a dinner there. The rest of the staff was kickin git up a notch with stuff clearly NOT on the menu (at least not the one we were presented!). Chef Hiro Sone even made an appearance in the main dining room. I'd only wished we could have had a moment to chat with him. The only detractor during the evening were two large, noisy parties that were there while we were. One was actually only 4 people, clearly tanked from a day of tasting and full of themselves. They left during our first course thankfully. The 2nd group came in just before the first left (8 people) and were OK at first, but then started getting a bit 'loud' too (which I guess was OK, because we we're winding our dinner down).

All in all a great culinary trip in Napa Valley for us this trip, even if we were only there for less than 2 days. D'oh!

Winetex... I've love to add my name, but it does not allow it. Under Edit Profile, the first last name fields are not available. I can LOOK at my account INFO but there is no edit function under "account" ... only under "Profile" and the first last name is not an option there.

Hmm, Brad should probably help you out with that. Go to the "Feedback Center" and post so he can check it out. We want Skippy back.

Skippy is back!!! (fyi - the forum "edit profile" is the wrong place. Upper left corner of the webpage, click on your name there).

This functionality will improve with the next release... getting closer...

From this week's NapaLife:

"In welcome news to his many fans, Jerry Shaffer is back to re-open the popular Foothill Café and Rib House, resurrecting his restaurant that had closed after being open only a short while under new owner Mari Jennings.

Shaffer, who was a chef at Masa’s, had developed a loyal following among Napa residents (especially winemakers) and knowing tourists who could find the obscure location in a nondescript shopping center on Old Sonoma Road..  He’s hoping to open June 15."

From the June 18th issue of the North Bay Business Journal:

Thomas Kellers's plans to open a small inn in Yountville are proceeding. Still some hurdles to jump though.

But more interesting:He has decided to make Ad Hoc a permanent restaurant. It was originally supposed to close December 2006.
