| | It just opened this past wednesday. I haven't been there yet, but we are looking forward to trying it. I hope that it is more than just pasta... | | | |

| | We ate at Wine Valley Cafe tonight. It is a stormy, rainy night tonight so the restaurant was half full (and the power went out once). It is very similar to what Green Valley was. The food was quite good - calamari, eggplant parm and chicken penne were excellent. Salads were good. A locals place, but good food. | | | |

| | The deal is now done for a restaurant to replace Pinot Blanc in St Helena. It is being taken over by Cindy Pawlcyn (Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen & Mustards) who will open a fish restaurant there. We are delighted - fresh fish, Maine lobster, sushi. Who cares if it doesn't go with cabernet. Scheduled to open in June. They are still debating names. | | | |

| Always nice to have a restaurant where you can open white wines
Seems like it should be a good niche... I don't know of many great seafood restaurants up there.

| Drove by Cindy's new place yesterday (3/23) and a number of worker bees were busy with remodeling, etc. So, Cindy's "Hat Trick" is on a fast track to opening day! | | | |

| Bouchon Boucherie...
Thomas Keller is opening a butcher shop across the street from the Bouchon Bakery in the Vintage 1870 center. The shop will get all the meats for The French Laundry and Bouchon and will also have a retail shop that will sell "fancy" meats and charcuterie.
That's the good news.
The bad news is that it will not be open for 18 months.

| 18 months! Wow - they must be growing their own cows and pigs, too! | | The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits... ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon. | |

| | Keller also just purchased the restaurant that was most recently Wine Garden (before that - The Diner). No official word yet on what he plans to do with it. | | | |

You can bet it won't be "free corkage" like the Wine Garden was at the beginning.
Let's see... a town of less than 3000 people with three Keller restaurants, a Keller bakery and a Keller butcher shop. He may have to change is name to Thomas Johnson.

| What do you bet that the "butcher shop" makes Lobel's look cheap? | | | |

| | January, IIRC. Rumor has it that they bet heavily on a big New Year's Eve thing, and of course every one was rained out. That apparently was the last straw. There had been plenty of signs leading up to it in the months previous. | | | |

| They were 'open' when we were in Yountville in Jan and walked by, but they were totally empty... sure sign of doom for a restaurant. | | The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits... ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon. | |

| | after my luke warm comments about Press, here is an update. We sat at the bar tonight and ordered from the bar menu. Kobe beef hamburger's for $9. Best deal in the house! Paired with a 1/2 bottle of the 2002 Crocker & Starr Stone Place Cuvee ($48 off the list). | | | |

| | So I heard from Greg Cole (Cole's Chop House and Celadon) that he's aquired a space 'across the way' from Celadon, and it's going to be a Fish restaurant. No name picked yet. No opening date yet. Between Greg and Cindy, I get two new fish places!! yaaaaaay! | | Skippy | |
