| | I've been to Delmonico's a couple of times, and have not been charged a corkage fee. We'd purchase a glass of champagne or a half bottle of a white off the list, before enjoying the cab we brought. I don't know if this is their policy, or we've just been lucky. | | | |

| | Last time at Delmonico's I dropped off 2 bottles a couple hours before dinner. When seated, both wines were at table waiting for us and we were charged one $25 corkage. No complaints here. | | | |

| | Regarding Alex, definitely try the tasting menu. We really enjoyed it and thought it was very good. You won't be disappinted! But if you are able to bring wine with you to Vegas, that would be the way to go. The list at Alex is very deep and a joy to read, but much too pricey. I don't know the corkage, but what ever it is, I think you'll still be much better off with BYO. My wife wasn't drinking with me (she's pregnant), so I ordered by the glass. The "by the glass" selection was very limited and not reasonably priced. | | | |

| Thanks for all the tips, particularly Mike for the Alex recommendation - that fits so nicely with our plans. I called, the corkage policy at Alex is $35/btl and 2 btl max. I am going to drop off a '47 & a '55 Borgogno Barolo on Friday so they have at least 1 day to stand up
Now I've just gotta figure out which wine for Friday at Delmonico...

LOS is only about a mile from the Hilton. LOS opens at 5:30 pm. If you're there, right when it opens, you can usually get a table. Once the doors open, it fills up pretty fast, especially on a Friday night. I would suggest getting a reservation.

| | When I saw a ~$80 bottle of Lynch-Bages on the Eiffel Tower restaurant's list at $600+, I swore off ever again ordering off the list at a Vegas restaurant. There's reasonable, and then there's ridiculous--but that's the free market economy. Vote with your feet, so to speak. | | Visit The Butcher Block at http://www.butcherblocktampa.com/ | |

| Thanks for all the great suggestions!
We wound up going to Delmonico for an early dinner before walking up to the bellagio for "O". I brought a 2000 Herb Lamb Estate Cab, which was terrific - if a bit young still. The show was outstanding - visual overload!
For Saturday we went to Spamalot for the 7PM showing, followed by an 8:30 dinner at Alex. Spamalot was great, and Alex was outstanding - best meal in recent memory. As advised here, we did the tastnig menu, and every corse was flawless - an outstanding meal. I had dropped off our wines with the Somm the day before - a '47 & a '55 Borgogno Barolo Reserva- both outstanding. The only surprise was, despite sharing the wine with the Somm, and leaving some for the rest of the staff to share - and buying a couple WAY overpriced glasses of chard., corkage was still charged at $35 per. Not a biggie, but surprising considering the circumstances.

| | Has anyone ever been to Okada? We have Alex booked for Thurs., then Le Cirque on Sat. Thinking it might be good to eat lighter on Friday before an 8pm show. | | | |

| Will be in Vegas next week. Looks like I'll be doing late dinners, as we have "dinner" plans with corp. ESPN Zone, Tao, Pinot Brasserie steakhouse (halibut or chicken). Whoohoo.
If anyone else is in town and doesn't mind eating later, let me know. Don't want to break the bank, but I'm guessing appetizers at Tao isn't going to be all that filling. Mon-Friday (leave late Friday).

| | Notes from this trip, so far. Always love Sushi Roku. Little pricey, but food is great and I love the lychee martinis. Hit Tao for a company sponsored open bar/appetizer session at the pool, ate dinner at The Palms in the Forum. Wine list was decidedly mediocre and 3x retail. Had enough alcohol at Tao, so the wine list was an easy skip. | | | |

Next time you go to The Palms ask for EJ to be your waiter.

| | Two nights in Vegas in a few weeks - where to dine? Hubby has already picked In-N-Out burger for a lunch and Lotus of Siam for a dinner so just one night to plan. I don't care for Delmonicos. Other BYOB? | | | |

I still think Picasso is the best all-around place on the strip. Beautiful venue. Unbelievable room with even more unbelievable art. Great service. And believe it or not Chef Julian Serrano can whip up some pretty good grub.

| Probably more relevant in the "what are you eating thread," but realistically, if you're trying to find a place to eat in Vegas, Ristorante B&B (Mario Batali's place in the Venetian) is a great option. Ended up getting the traditional tasting menu with the reserve wine pairing. Details - everyone at the table has to sign up for the tasting menu, and technically the reserve wine tasting is all-or-nothing as well. I put up a stink (I'm spending $180 on the combo and my buddy doesn't touch alcohol) and they finally gave in to just serving me the wine... The reserve wine tasting is basically whatever they open up and decide will be "perfect' that night in the $95 range. Here's what I had (and yes, they give you a card):
Funghi Misti with Escarole "Con la Salsa" - really enjoyed, nice bite with the chili 2004 Schiopetto Collio Sauvignon Blanc - burnt rubber smell, went away after 15 mins
Mascarpone Agnolotti with Market Beans - imagine mini-raviolis filled with butter that explode in your mouth. 2004 Moccagatta Chardonnay - butterscotch in a glass
Black Pepper Pappardelle with Boar Ragu - very good 2000 Villa di Capezzana Ghiaie della Furba Toscana IGT - didn't care for, personally. Sommelier kept telling me the nose was "forest floor and earth", I thought it smelled like a forest floor covered in TCA. *shrug*
Lamb Saddle with "Cacio Uova" and Wild Spinach - WOW just to die for. Cooked perfectly. 2001 Le Macchiole Bolgheri Superiore Paleo Rosso
Lemon Poppyseed Tart with Basil and Blackberries - basil sorbet was a first for me, but it really went well. Little small for a dessert portion? 2005 Maculan Moscato Dindarello - great match with the lemon poppyseed
Cioccolato with Chocolate Stout Sorbetto - again, thanks for the 1" sized portion N.V. Elio Perrone Bigaro - couldn't help but think "berry spritzer"
Overall, excellent experience, excellent service.

I just starting to realize that a lot of the wines I describe as "barnyard" or "forest floor" that what I am smelling is Brett.
