Have a good time. We'll know how it went if you post a list of wines for sale upon your return.

not yet but i plan to next week

it has an incredible ARC in the building that is very unique, just beautiful and graceful lines

i hear the inside is all FIRST CLASS but not overdone, some say much like the Belliagio

not suprising i guess

i will report after i visit

just got back last night and it was great as usual, although i lost a lot more than usual this time a complete write up with food and wine will be coming once i catch up with the 2000 or so posts i missed.

one thing i will say and this is from a visitor's standpoint not a guest's. wynn's new place is not as nice as the bellagio imo. it loosely resembles the bellagio from the inside and the mirage from the outside. you can tell it is a steve wynn property but i have no intentions on ever staying there unless he sells out to the mirage/mgm group. imo bellagio is still the best place on the strip with mandalay bringing up a close second. and now with mandalay group belonging the mgm/mirage i might start staying there sometimes as well.

I saw some pictures of Wynn this morning on TV. It looks pretty nice to me. Anybody heard anything about the SW Restaurant?

Michael Bauer the head restaurant critic for the San Francisco Chronicle took a trip to Las Vegas and visited several restaurants which have San Frnacisco equivalents (all started in SF/LA/NYC, I've not seen a top notch restaurant whose chef doesn't also have a place elsewhere). The reviews can be foundhere .

Interesting. I can't say I disagree with the comments on Bradley Ogden, especially the one about the arrogant waitstaff.

We're going in a few weeks. Delmonico's is a definite; other than that, I'm open to ideas.

try to get ross as your waiter, he is a class act all the way. prime or picasso at the bellagio would be nice especially if you can get a table with a view of the fountains.

I think in an earlier post someone asked about Aquaknox at the Venetian, IMO--skip it unless you simply want to sit at the Oyster Bar, slurp a few back, watch a baseball game and relax for a bit. Limited menu and personally I don't care for the tres chic minimalist "W"-esque hotel deco, but that's a matter of taste, some people may love it, seems kind of sterile to me. Aside from that the waitstaff seems really ......lacking. We had 3 people all kind of just milling around and trying to top off our wine every 5 minutes. I finally told the cute boy server who I THINK was our main waitstaff "dude", (seriously, it was like the criterion for getting hired at Aquaknox was "must resemble Keanau Reeves" (sp?..sorry dude) anyhow, in a very friendly voice I told him we are very low maintenance and just relaxing, kind of experimenting with the wine and food pairings so not to worry about pouring; which he actually seemed relieved. He waived the $25 corkage on the 4 bottles so that was a plus, I left him some 2001 Kistler, I don't recall the vineyard but he was interested in the Kistler as the only one on the list at Aquaknox was the one that started with "N" and he said something that sounded like Noise-trees.....poor guy, at least he feigned interest and was trying. This was a couple of months ago and I have been meaning to comment on this.

well i guess it is time i give my little write up, so here goes...

tables were good to me and very bad to my wife
machines were good to me and very very bad to my wife

'nuff said there

bellagio still rocks and we found that we are still in love with the mirage pool and the who resort style outdoor area. the bellagio outdoor area is too sterile for me. i find that the pool there is just for older people trying to die faster from skin cancer.

delmonico is still the best steak house in town imo. they are going to start becoming a double stop on my trips. i took a 01 mas doix with me and it was just perfect paired with my rack of lamb and many side dishes. i order a bottle of 2003 Mönchhof Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese for the wife and at $50 it was a steal and a great bottle.

prime steakhouse was wonderful after a shaky start. they seem to be real confused when someone byob's. i brought the 02 les pavots and it was just wonderful after about 5 hrs of air. the have the most wonderful mash potatoes in the world. they actually shave black truffles into them and they are to die for. wife bought a couple glasses of some reisling of the list.

we also dined at some italian place at caesers called tarranza's iirc. nice restaurant and i ate for free som no complaints. i had the rack of lamb and a great salad. since we were the guests of dawn's aunt and uncle and they drink white wine i pick some kind of 02 ABC chard off the list. price was right and since my chard knowledge is limited i knew it had to be better than clos du bois.

we ate lunch one day at the new addition to the forum shops. a new restaurant called joe's steak and seafood had just opened. they are some outfit ot of chicago. i ordered some 2001 rieslings from the rhein and took a picture of the bottle with my phone. problem is i don't know how to work my phone very well, so i can't give you the name. needless to say it was very good. i found the food there very good especially for a $175 lunch . we will return.

as usual we hit cafe giorgio's in mandalay place for lunch one day. no wine but great tomato cream sauce with awesome fresh bread.

another lunch was il fornaio at ny, ny. see above about giorgio's

all in all it was a great trip although expensive. amazing how they can take so much of your money and all you can think about when you're leaving is when can i come back.

Well, I'm headed out this Wednesday, June 1st. Staying 3 nights at Mandalay Bay w/ a friend. Only problem is, now he has to leave early due to a death in the family.

We've got Delmonico reserved Thursday night - I'm brining an '00 Bressler and an '00 Foley Claret. But, I need a recommendation on the best place to dine alone (preferably at the bar) Friday night. Any suggestions?
