ALERT!

Fantastic new restaurant opens in Yountville! Raves from the Goldfarbs, Bresslers and Niederauers!

The Wine Garden

Six of us had dinner here last night and what great food and what fun! They call themselves a "tapas-small plate" restaurant with some good ol' American comfort food. Take a look at themenu. We nominated Bob as our captain and he ordered everything for the table. The small dishes just kept coming and coming as we passed each one around the table for each of us to take a nibble. It is really kind of like Willi's in Santa Rosa if you have ever been there.

The wine list is not very good but... listen to this...NO CORKAGE is their policy. We brought in 10 bottles of wine and the only problem we had with the restaurant staff was we had to keep insisting that they didn't have to bring us new glasses for each wine.

And another wonderment (listen to this one Dan)...NO CHARGE BOTTLED WATER your choice gas or no gas.

I know, you don't believe me. But I swear... on my mother's fox stole... it is 100% true.

BUT that's still not all the good stuff. Look at the menu close. Figure out what you might want to eat and add it up. We ate and ate and ate (with an occasional sip of wine) passing all these different small plates around between the six or us and when the bill came...I ALMOST FELL OVER ! The bill was just under $200... for six of us... like under $35 each... for a fantastic fine food fun fxperience... unbelievable! I heartily recommend the place and I look forward for some other reviews fromyou-who-do.

Sounds like a great experience, David! I hope the restaurant continues all those policies even after they've been open for a while...

I love the menu format:
fingers, hands, etc...
Can't wait for the next trip that way!

The Wine Garden is having some issues. They had to cut back on a lot of their cooks and bussers / servers n' whatnot in the last few months. A lot of people got pink slipped.

Has anyone been to Cafe 29 for dinner? We enjoy their breakfasts (especially the crepes) but don't know how they pull off dinner. We have a rez for Saturday night.

In so far as I know, they haven't proved it was Wendy's or her dead granny's

Isn't that common in a new restaurant? To overstaff in the beginning, then weed out the positions that are not needed. Or are you saying it is purely a financial descision and the must reduce overhead.

alas, still hit or miss. Rumor is that they will renew their lease through the end of the year.

At at Martini House Wednesday night in St. Helena. Great place, great food, great service. I had the mushroom soup and veal chop, both were excellent. The chica had the duck, even better than the veal chop. A definite recommend.

Anybody been to Pere Jeanty? It was recommended and I will be in Napa mid-May. I assume this is different than Bistro Jeanty.
