The Friday tastings at Casa Sena are every Friday and, indeed, worth attending. They charge a $10 fee either to keep the riff-raff out or to keep it from being too crowded.
The Kelly's operation downtown is no more. It was bought and moved to an out-of-the-way location in the De Vargas shopping center. No more tastings and no stock to make a visit worthwhile. That is disconcerting. I remember they relocated to DeVargas right before we moved from there and, while they did keep up the wine tastings (at least for a while) the shelves always seemed empty and the store rather barren.

| We are contemplating the Santa Fe motel should we go the budget (under $100) route for the Wine & Chile Fiesta. It was redone a while back and is supposed to be nice. It is also fairly conveniently located. My other perennial budget choice is Garrett's Dessert Inn - which is perhaps even better located.
My favorite hotel is probably the Hotel St. Francis. It is very "euro" which is a welcome change after all the Southwestern bull$hit you are exposed to there. Fantastic lobby (for SF). The Inn at Loretto got a recent major facelift recently and is also nice. The name of the other place I stayed at a lot escapes me now....
Sorry but your first two options don't ring any bells. I have not stayed at the Anasazi but have eaten and hung out there often when I lived there. Great chile-rubbed tenderloin.

| Question: what do you pack for dinner out in Sante Fe? I presume the area in general is casual but if you're going to dinner at one of the higher end places (Geronimo, La Casa Sena, Santacafe, Inn of the Anasazi, etc...) are jackets recommended?

| | Boy, here we go again on the dress code thing. At a high end restaurant in the West, I will always wear a sportcoat, minimum. But then again, I was pilloried for extolling the virtues of dressing nicely when dining out. In the Summer months, it would be slacks, an open collared shirt and a sportcoat. In the winter, I'd add a tie. You certainly wouldn't look out of place at Geronimo with that get-up. If you dine outside, it could be quite warm so I'd skip the jacket under those circumstances. | | Beta testing a new signature. | |
