I posted this on your other thread.

Thee Bungalow in point Loma has great French food, an oustanding wine leist, and very fair prices.

Wineseller and Brasserie is a fine French restaurant. If you enjoy the wine you have with dinner, you can buy it at retail to take home in their store downstairs.

Rainwater on Kendrick was great American food with some hard to find Pinot Noirs on their wine list.

Top of the Cove in La Jolla is beautiful, but, imo, not worth the money.

This is after Shleter Island, and before the Navy Base on the hill??

As I remember, there is also a Point Loma Sea Foods, just before the road up the hill, any good??

I never went to Point Loma Sea Foods.

I'm not certain where in Point Loma Thee Bungalow is.

Point Loma Seafood is excellent. Don't expect any white linens, it's a simple place and I would recommend it for lunch. Great selection of fresh and smoked fish. Decent selection of wine, also by the glass.
I fish out of the nearby Sport fishing landings several times a year and I always visit Point Loma Seafood. Try dinner at "Top of the market", it's the upscale dining room of the "Fish Market", it's on Harbor Drive close to the convention center.
Enjoy!

Board-O...

Actually this thread is from someone other than myself who posted the first where in San Diego/LaJolla. You made some very good suggestions. Many thanks! We're off to So Cal in two weeks and will try your restaurant recommendations.

Looks like San Diego will be crowded the 20th to 24th.

GA

Any leads on the best wine shop in area? Will be staying at the marina, and have car so looking to buy about 4 cases of stuff that the local distributors in Florida say is not available .

even with carrying back on flight, will save a bundle, and not be a felon.

Good link to La Jolla. Thanks

Winesellar and Brasserie has a good selection. (Sorrento Mesa)

Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido is pretty good.

A lot of people like a shop called Wine Bank. I haven't actually shopped there though.

Wine Connection on Villa de La Valle has a lot of high end wines but you have to be selective on pricing.

Try a google search on those names. Most of them have websites. Good luck.

QOH...

I wish that I had taken the photo at a show that I attended, but I did a Google seach and borrowed the picture. After about 100 shows over 30 years, I never took a picture, but that wasn't the reason to see the boys, was it....

If you happen to have TIME Magazine the week after JG died, the spread photo was taken by a good friend of mine (a professional photog). He has thousands of Dead photos and that was his first-ever national magazine photo published. Darn proud and bittersweet.

I'm a photo hound and my favorites of the boys are three:

1. Jerry in shorts with black socks and sneakers.
2. Bobby in shorts, that tank top, wearing ankle weights.
3. From a Seattle show, in the stands, DH's holding a HUGE sign, "LET PHIL SING."

Sorry for the diversion, but let's see, been to about five shows in San Diego.

Many happy thanks. Great meal, and had a great time.

Had a nice table, and sampled many wines. Ordered by the to get a variety

Lost my taste notes in the suitcase, thus can't put them here. Did have a nice Pinot Noir from Napa,

Other places:

Bought wine at It's a Steal in San Diego. Shop personnel were knowledgeable and help full Also went to a nice shop in LaJolla called Cuvee. Many items were available for tasting. Between the two places, got three cases of wine.

For a over priced, poor food, with a lousy atmosphere go to The Prince of Wales Room at the Hotel Coronado.

Overall prices- $ 275 for a dinner [ one chefs & 1 lamb, plus 2 glasses of Brancoot 2001 SB for the litttle lady]
Portions - miniscule
Ambience - lacking
Wine list - extensive
Prices of wine - 3X markup. very few less than $ 100
Stemware - Riedel for most selections
Chef's Menu - $ 115 with wine, most were inferior. one was corked
Portions - After dinner we stopped off in Gas Lamp, and had a steak.

PS: Again another Over rated WS Award winning resturant.

I'm glad to hear you liked it. I don't know when we'll get back to the San Diego area, but we'll visit Thee Bungalow, Rainwater's, and Wineseller and Brasserie when we do.

Edward, you comments on the restaurant at Hotel Coronado is not surprising. The place looks like a classic tourist trap. I always cringe when I see the WS Award on the entrance. I feel like I'm going to get ripped off on the wines.
