| Taking a weekend away (you brits will know ryanair and their crazy sales) next weekend to (hopefully) sunny Alghero, Sardinia!
Anyone been there? I found what appears to be a nice hotel just outside of town and I know there are some roman ruins or something there. Anybody else know anything firsthand about the area?
ciao! | | |

| I'm already away! (wink)
Well, I guess no takers, so I'll have to let all of YOU know how nice or not that place is. I just hope the cold snap going to hit england as of tomorrow doesn't hit Italy

| Last time I was there we walked around the outside wall with, lo and behold, a full eclipse of the moon. Talk about spine tingling.
Even without an eclipse walking through the streets of the old town at night is an absolute must.

| Well, I've returned. Alghero is a lovely little town with lots of old towers and churches. The weather was ok for us, but we did get sun on the last day. Even in early February, the sun is quite strong even if the air temperature is only in the low 60s.
Food: Mamma Mia! Seafood and pasta is the way to go here. Kate and I had the good fortune or bad luck to have our most amazing meal on the first night. I forget the name of the place, but it was possibly the best Italian food I've ever had the privilege of tasting.
The highlight of the meal of me was a cold antipasto assortment which I could easily rename 4 shades of octopus. 1) Vinegar marinate 2) sautéed in garlic 3) arribiata sauce 4) something other that was fantastic Also of note was the fish on the plate that turned out to be a local shark variety.
Pasta was predictably fantastic and the fish course awesome as well. One thing in particular about this location is the seafood is fresh fresh fresh. Prawns are particularly amazing.
Anyway, on to the wine. The wine was good. Not great, but good for food. Some was better then others and I bought a few bottles to try them out. My tasting notes will be in the appropriate forum.
