Okay, today I'm at a restaurant that I frequent.  And where, when I bring wine, I share it.  I was almost the only diner in the room (except a table of red-hatters).  I had a couple of glasses of pinot.
The somm , with one of the local distributors who sat down next to me, began sampling wines.  I suppose they were deciding what will be on the wine list next week or month.
NEVER ONCE offered me a taste or even a glimpse of the labels.
I felt very dissed.
Maybe I'm overly sensitive....

No, that sounds like people who just don't know how to behave.

With all due respect, I'd vote for overly sensitive. The distributor was working - selling wine is how he makes his living! If he's got the somm "on the hook" (sorry) for a particular wine he's anxious to sell the last thing he wants or needs is an outsider pronouncing it to be less than wonderful. I don't know how things work in Alaska, but in California there would also be license and liability issues.

Kpak, could be the somm was trying to save you some grief. I've been on both sides of the fence, with the funniest experience being with Seanr7 in OK City, where we traded a couple of glasses of wine and the distributor, somm and restaurant manager ended up sitting at the table with us. That said, the wine ranged from good to mediocre and neither of us was really overly excited about it.

They were also sampling other wines from the list; perhaps had a limited supply.  I guess I would have felt less excluded had they moved off somewhere more private.  However, this guy has alway had an attitude and has never been very gracious, even when I shared wine that is not readily available up here ( Bressler, Match, Neal - maybe he just didn't like them...?)
Luckily, I rarely deal with the somm and have always had a good rapport with the other wait-staff.

But yes, I will admit to (at times) being an overly-sensitive type....

Then I realized what a cretin he must be.

Kpak, it was probably not a personal thing. They were working and may not have really noticed that you were in the area. That said at least you didn't have to drink with the "cretin" as Randy notes.
