Boo - yup, it's me again.

Sorry to jump in on you like this but I'm going to be in Reston, which is apparently near Washington and I know that some of you still live nearby.

I will (very probably) be there next week, so if anybody fancies a quick off-line then I'd be happy to meet you.

Who's around?

Hey KillerB - Reston is about 30-40 minutes worth of driving outside of Washington DC. Will you have access to transportation and make it into the city? What days were you thinking of?

If you cannot make it to DC: BYO is not allowed in Virginia, though we may be able to wiggle out an offline @ Mark's Duck House in Falls Church, VA which is a bit closer.

Reston (and its environs) doesn't really have any great food (other than ethnic food), and as JT points out, no BYOB.  That being said, depending on the day, I might be able to swing something, either in Reston or possibly elsewhere.

It depends on the day, but I might be able to make something. DC is preferred if at all possible.

AS MLV posted somewhere, my folks live in Reston (although I did not grow up there) - My dad does the bus to metro into DC fairly often - If you time it right it is ok, although for a one time trip maybe there is a shuttle service or something that would be less of a pain.

If the bus service is too much of a difficulty then I may get a taxi to the Metro unless it is prohibitively expensive.

I was thinking of Tuesday or Wednesday and definitely in DC. I can't epect all and sundy to decamp to a Virginian new town where they don't allow BYOB.

I can take the point and organize this - depending on how many people show up I can try to make a reservation.

I would like to recommend the following places to KillerB for starters:

Palena
Komi
Dino (Italian)
Sushi-ko (Sushi/Japanese)

KillerB, I would build in maybe 1.5 hours for you to get to DC by public transportation (bus/car + subway with traffic time built in) - when do you think you can make it into DC?

I need to check with my wife schedule wise but I think I can be in if it is Tuesday. Wednesday works, but Tuesday is better. Another option would be to try Tosca, I read in the paper their serving up some fine new lardo from a small producer from WV. Or we could also try Brasserie Beck.

I'll still organize it - is everyone OK with going to Palena? KillerB, does a 7 or 730 reservation work for you? Who else is in?

I should be able to get to DC by 7:00PM if that's the case. Any time after that would suit me fine.

I will be bringing eassily transported bottles so no Vintage Port, Bordeaux or Brunello, I'm sorry to say. One of my travelling Aussies and a bit of Sauternes will suffice though.

Due to baggage restrictions I will not be able to store the magnum of Lambrini that I owe TJ. Shame, as it's on special offer at £2.50 for the mag, and some places buy one get one free.

See you all Tuesday,

No problem KB - there's also a wine store within spitting distance of Palena that you can get a wine from if you cannot bring one. My only caveat is that you do the Lambrini dance when you are here.

Phew, made it. I am currently taking advantage of a freebie machine in the training centre as my laptop won't hook up. The wines have survived the journey and we will be Drabbing. Neither is a crime as they can both be taken young. I will check the routes and should be there on or about time.

See you tomorrow,

I hope it all went well last night. Sorry to have canceled at the last minute (one of my brothers is in the ICU with acute pancreatitis).
