Agree on the CR Sparks. You could divert on the way north and take Route 3 (Everett Turnpike) up through NH and stop at The Common Man in Merrimack, NH. Nice and casual, but food is good. Or Buckley's Great Steaks a bit further up the same exit is very good, although a bit pricey (For NH standards). You can then take Rt 3 north through Concord, NH and then up Rt 89 into VT and White River Junction area.

Common Man was exactly what I was looking for...how much time will it put me out of my way up to Bethlehem? What do you like at Common Man?

The New Engralnd highway system is pretty strange, but I'll try and come up with an easy explination.
Coming from Logan Airport you have 2 ways to get up to Bethlehem. You go straight up 93 all the way into Manchester, NH. and continue on 93 to Bethlehem.
Or you go up 93 until 495 and take that back south (told you it was strange), then take route 3 north once you arrive in Lowell, MA. Rt 3 takes you up through Nashua and then to Merrimack. Common Man is right off exit 11 in Merrimack. After dinner, you head up Rt 3 into Manchester when the road turns into 93 and head up to Bethlehem.
A quick peek at Mapquest shows a drive of Logan Airport to Bethlehem is 2 hrs 41 minutes. Logan to Merrimack to Bethlehem is 3 hrs 8 minutes. So you're looking at an extra 30 minutes. Although partial to the Nashua/Merrimack area (I've grown up here), its a nicer drive than 93 through Methuen and Lawrence.
There's also a Common Man in Concord, NH, which would be right on the way off 93. This can keep you on the shorter path of 93, but be able to go to a Common Man. Concord's about 1 hr 15 minutes from Logan.
Concord Common Man
I'm partial to the Pork Tenderloin and the grilled salmon. The pork is awsome paired with the sweet potato hash.... They make some seriously good "comfort food". | | Mike Coutu Addicted to Wine

| Staying at the Marriott Copley Place next Monday night. Can anyone comment on a few great restaurants within walking distance? I know there's a nice cigar bar close by....will hit that late night.
TIA. | | | |

| Excelsior-Near Boylston and Arlington Troquet-A few blocks further downtown on Boylston past Charles St. Steaks-Grille 23 near hotel
Cigar Masters on Boylston I believe between Exeter and Dartmouth-one of the only places in Boston you can smoke.
Hope this helps. Have fun.

| | I know it's all dependent on the current weather...but generally speaking...how are the roads from Boston to Vermont to Montreal in mid March? I am a little worrisome about ice. Thanks. | | | |

| If Al gore is right (and from the way it looks out my window right now, he is), you'll be cruising to Montreal like this: | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

| | Yeah that could easily be the case. You should be ok. Rt 100 will be worse than Rt 89 so if it's bad take 89 and get off where you need to instead of driving Rt100 all the way. The best peice of advise i can give you for driving on ice in NE is keep it slow, and keep the radio off. If it looks like the road is wett and you don't hear water under the tires...slow down even more. | | "It's better to have your enemies inside the tent pissing out, then outside the tent pissing in." -- Lyndon Johnson | |

| get a car with an outside thermometer. If it's 36 or less watch out for black ice.
Also, if your on 100 and its sunny, and your going thrugh a lot of shaded areas [also on a cold day] watch for ice in the shade!!

| OMG...ICE??? ICE??? I am deathly afraid of ice. I'm not afraid of dying because of ice...I am afraid that I will spin out and hit 10 other cars.
I think I will purchase the extra coverage on the rental car...the coverage in which you walk away paying nothing if something happens to the car.

| | I *THINK* what we are going to do is drive up and stay in Burlington the first night. Do the Lake Champlain tour the next morning. Go to Waterbury Center and do Cold Hollow Mill Cider and stay in Stowe the second evening at Trapp Family lodge. I didn't want to make the 45 minute drive back to Warren to eat at Pitchers Inn (but I can be convinced to change my mind). We were going to do dinner at Bee's Knees. | | | |

| | It's up to you but I'm not sure I'd go to the Bee's Knee's for dinner. I had a great meal the other day at the Stowe Inn. The other option is the bisto in the Green Mountain Inn in the village. You'll love the Trapp Family Lodge I was in a wedding there this summer great spot. | | "It's better to have your enemies inside the tent pissing out, then outside the tent pissing in." -- Lyndon Johnson | |

| I looked under the Green Mountain Inn website...they have a bar and grill and main dining room, not a bistro. Which one are you referring to?
Also...looking for dining recommendations for Burlington. TIA.

| | A couple great places in the Boston suburbs are "Blue Ginger" in Wellesley and a little bring your own wine place in Needham called "Sweet Basil". Almost nowhere in Mass can you bring your own and the food there is actually fantastic to the point of a cult following. | | | |
