| | As good as Chinese is in Vancouver, you might find some decent places in Boston - I think after Italian, Chinese food was my favorite while I lived there for a summer many years ago. | | | |

| I'm debating going from Bennington (SW corner) up to the Lake Champlain area via the historic Route 7 and then hitting the St. Johnsbury area -OR- going from Bennington to Killington to Montpelier to the St. Johnsbury area
Which part of Route 100 is the best?

I would extend that through stowe and morrisville. Want a really nice place to stay try the Pitcher Inn. Swing through the Warren Store, Eat at Flatbread (if your there on a Saturday), Have a beer at the Alchemist in Waterbury, Snag free samples at Cabot, Drink cider at Cold Hollow, Stop by the Bee's Knee's in Morisville for some good deserts/coffee/hippie music or and I can't suggest this enough go gliding at the Morisville airport. | | "It's better to have your enemies inside the tent pissing out, then outside the tent pissing in." -- Lyndon Johnson

| Thanks fred and Edward.
There will be one day that I will be in the Waterbury area doing those various things. I had planned to drive the 30 minutes back to Warren to have dinner at the Pitchers Inn. Is it worth the drive?
Also, the first night on our trip, we will be flying into Boston arriving around 5:00. According to mapsquest, the drive to southern Vermont is approx. 2 hours. Is there a nice town/city that I can stay at on my way to Waterbury the next day? Any recommendations for lodging in the town?
Is the food good at Bee's Knees? The menu looks comforting to me...

| | If you want to stay on the main interstates (little out of the way), Northampton, MA is about 2 hrs NW from Boston and is a cool little town. Smith College is there, so it's a college town, but a relatively small one. We stayed at the Inn at Northampton a couple of times. OK hotel, just don't eat there. Pretty big art collection at the college, some neat bookstores and deli places and a cool church in the center of town. I'd also nominate it for the lesbian Mecca of the Eastern Seabord ;-) One other note - not sure how old your kids are, but the Basketball Hall of Fame is a COOL stop and twenty miles south (yeah, wrong way). That said, if the kids are into hoops, it's pretty neat. | | | |

| | That would be a great idea...my kid (singular) who is 5 can definately use some exposure to basketball since she will probably grow up to be 6 foot tall...I kid you not. I can pimp her out to the WNBA...bahahaha! | | | |

| Bella- You can definetly go to No-Ho as they call it but it's going to be a long damn drive. Bee's Knee's has great food, very crunchy but feels like your sitting in someones living room. I'd drive back for dinner at the Pitcher Inn. Get a tour and ask to see the cellar. At one point they had a massive cellar and then the Mad River flooded and wiped out much of it, they had to rebuild. If you have time you can hike Camel's hump, there is a trail head 15 minutes from waterbury or you can drive up the Lincoln Gap which is in Warren "technically" and go up mount Abraham. You need a good weather day for both hikes because the summits are really exposed and the weather can be bad. My suggestion for a place to stay on the way north would be the now not so quiet hamlet of Hanover NH. | | "It's better to have your enemies inside the tent pissing out, then outside the tent pissing in." -- Lyndon Johnson | |

| Montpilier is only 165 miles from Logan. Take I-93 to Manchester HN [lot pf god hotels] or continue a bit north to Concord and take I-89 to Montpelir.
shold be in Manchaster in 1 hour concord Lebeon NH & White River Junction in another hour.

| | Does WHite River Junction still have the trams that go up the mountains? That might be fun for her daughter. Also, you can drive up Mt. Washington (or hike!) - not sure how long that would take, but it's beautiful. I climbed it when I was about 12. | | | |

| | Mt. Washington has a really cool train that goes up the side. It's a little pricey, but we'll probably do it this year just for the heck of it. If you're up that way, might as well hit Franconia notch and see Michael Jackson on the mountain (the old man lost his nose :-P ) | | | |

| That train going up the side of Mt. Washington is a cog railway, similar to the one on Pike's Peak. Very interesting and scenic.
Also, be sure to go to Ticonderoga. Not only is it scenic and home of a famous fort, but it's got a great paper mill too. MMMMM! Smells like money! | | Cheers, y'all

| | If you are looking for a place with a very good, reasonably placed wine list try Kingston 1686 House in Kingston, NH. Not sure if this takes you too far off your path. The Boston vinocellar contingent has done a couple of dinners there. | | | |

| | Thanks for the rec Zekeboston. However, I think we are going to be starving when getting off of the plane. So somewhere closer to Boston on the way to Bethlehem would be better...thanks! | | | |

| | There really isn't all that much between Boston and Waterbury along 93 and 89. In WRJ there is the 4 barrel brewery which isn't anything spectacular. | | "It's better to have your enemies inside the tent pissing out, then outside the tent pissing in." -- Lyndon Johnson | |
