I just arrived in Phoenix for two days...107 degrees...dry heat of course, the kind you're not supposed to sweat in....yeah, right!

Anybody have any suggestions on good restaurants in Phoenix, Tempe, etc?

TIA,

Despite the absolutely horrid name, I had a terrific food and wine experience at Cowboy Ciao in Scottsdale. While the name might evoke thoughts of bad western dinner theater, the place is very urban contemporary with a dynamite wine list. The list is a 100 page book that could use better organization, but spend some time with it and you will find some real gems. We found an '02 Kosta Browne "Kanzler" for $90. Menu pricing was reasonable as well.

Mary Elaine's at the Phoenician is a "special evening" place that is excellent. But it will set you back quite a bit.

Haven't been in several years, but we enjoyed a fine meal at T Cook's at the Royal Palms Hotel. I hear that it is still a fine option.

Here's alink to an earlier thread.

Yep, that thread has a lot of good info. Travelrep, the pizza place recommended in that thread is a must. And, probably one of the best pizza(s) I ever had to date. Plus, the Italian wines in that place are very reasonably priced.

I'll be going to Phoenix next month. I've printed out all of the information from this and the 2003 link. I would appreciate any updates, but this will get me going for now.

TIA

I go to T Cooks a few times a year, both for lunch and dinner. The food remains excellent, and the hotel property has gorgeous gardens and excellent service.

Maestro's in N. Scottsdale is a great steakhouse, chef is formerly of Del Friscos. I had the '01 Shafer HSS there last year just after release for $225 or $225, below auction prices and very reasonable restaurant markup.

6th Avenue Bistro, I believe in Old Scottsdale, has some great french food in an elegant but casual setting. Probably best for a night with the missus rather than an associate.

Thanks. I was near the convention center without a car and it seems like a lot of the recommendations were in Scottsdale. I ended eating at a shopping center and eat at a place which I believe is called Sam's Grill (or something like that). I was very pleasantly surprised how good the food was. The ourside garden at night was really special as well. Worked out much better than I thought since I didn't want to do a $50 cab ride to Scottsdale. I should
