Nantucket without hesitation. Hyannis is certainly a nice place, but Nantucket is a wonderful island with a unique culture and lifestyle. Prices for almost everything are likely to be higher in Nantucket, though. Keep in mind Nantucket is a 2-hour ferry from Hyannis. Have fun either way.

Can any one recommend some place(s) to stay in Nantucket for a 3/4-day get-away?

I prefer Martha's Vineyard.

People up there choose one or the other, it seems, never both.

Sorry, I can't help on Nantucket. If you want to hit Edgartown instead, I can recommend some places.
