Food was not memorable either, and there were a number of unruly drunk parties that night, and the restaurant did little to rectify the situation.

Yeah, I was a bit rowdy that night. Sorry about that.

I thought you looked familiar. Seriously, and I am not one to complain, but the groups were out of control and the place acted like it was our fault when we complained about it.

My wife and I have been to ortanique a dozen times, and I would say, that 3 times we felt we didn't get the service we would expect from a place that charges $30-$40 a plate, but overall, the food is exceptional.

Another reco would be Casa Tua in Miami Beach; in my opinion the best restaurant on the beach. One more to consider would be Prime 112; awesome steak.

We're going down for the Miami marathon (with Type-A non-wino athletes) and not really looking for a place that will accommodate wine, but more of a place with good, reasonably priced food, including a pasta place and a Cuban food place.

Any recs for those types of food?

Thanks in advance.

For the most part, i don;t really know any good Cuban places (amazing, I know). But, if any of you want to get an offline going while you are here, just let us know!

Just head for Calle Ocho. Follow the crowd. Should be good.

Look no further, Versailes Restaurant on SW 8th street. Make sure you get a shot of cuban coffee afterwards.

All:

I would generally like to do an offline, but with the focus on the marathon, it looks like the only beverages we'll be imbibing will be gatorade and H2O!

We're in Miami from Jan. 26-31. It's possible we might be able to meet up on Sunday night if you're available. The marathon will be over and the wine drinking will begin!

In ended up going to:

Chef Sammy's (because we got in late and it was nearby and the only restaurant open. It was in a storefront but I must say the Oso Bucco and Risotto were decent. Not much of a wine list except a Banfi Brunello but we ended up just drinking Peroni.

On Saturday I went to Joe's Stone Crab because someone I knew were able to get us right in avoiding a three hour wait. The shellfish was good but it was quite the mod scene. The wine list was nothing special. I was hoping to find a good Pinot but there was none. I ended up getting a Cloudy Bay SB. (This wine has seemed to have gone downhill of late)

Last night we went to Graziano's Argentine steakhouse in Coral Gables. I highly recommend this place, as the food was good but the wine list was top notch. i ended up getting a Martinelli 7 Mules and a Araujo Eisele for decent prices.

We stayed at Doral CC and it was substandard . Fortunately the room was taken care of by the sponsors of the medical conference.

Happy Graziano's worked out for you. We have only been to their Enoteca/Pizzeria next door, but Emilio always talks it up and has been trying to get an off-line together there.

Close to Pembroke Pines, La Brochette Bistro ($10 corkage list is fair at best)

I have heard good things about Joseph's If you are willing to drive a little:

Hi-Life Cafe - Fort Lauderdale
North 110 in North Miami.

On a different note, to South Florida residents, I highly recommend a visit to 4140 Bar & Grille on Federal North of Oakland Park. Owned by the same new owners of Himarshee, excellent food, incredibly cheap and no corkage. Stems are not the best.

MLV and I shared a salad and both had fish entrees with a BYO and the grand total with a massive tip was $54. A rare jewel given the lack of this type of place in South Florida.

Hi, I will be in the Miami/Ft Laud-area next month for 4 days. Reading this thread & talking with Edward, this is the list of restaurants. I would like 2 “must visit” top tier places & 3-4 nice places @ reasonable prices offering nice dishes.

Can I ask for some recommendations as to narrow the choices listed or otherwise…

FL Lauderdale:

Cafe Martorano
Marks Las Olas
Hi-Life Café
Cafe Martini

Miami:

Chef Allens
Bella Luna
Norman's Coral Gables
The Forge Miami Beach
Rest St Michel Coral Gables
Casa Tua: Miami Beach
Blue Door

Thanks as always!

I thought Norman's in the Gables closed?  Maybe it was going to and was rescued, I don't know.

MLV and I frequent Hi-Life - it falls in the nic eplace at reasonable prices criteria of your list - Pretty good list and corkage is $18 or 20 (used to be 15, was raised to 18 -)

Chef Allen's is pretty good - I have not been to Marks Las Olas in years - it was very good although loud and sceney at the bar -

Cafe Martarano is not our kind of place - Hard to explain but to me it has always sounded cheesy and kind of like a parody.  I have never even heard of Cafe Martini

The Forge is crap - living off its reputation and to be avoided at all costs. I have never been to Casa Tua vut have heard it is excellent -
