One of my old co-workers, Rick Adams, has been involved in a new restaurant in Falls Church, called 2941. It's supposed to be quite good. I'd be interested if anyone in the DC area has tried it yet. The wine list looks good.

If you go in the next couple of weeks, mention the "Mary Alexander email" and you'll get a free dessert.

Here's their web page.

Lilac...

I had my wife's 50th birthday party at 2941 in early April. We had 21 people in one of their private rooms. I did a write up about the dinner which is somewhere in the Where DC area of Dining and Travel. I'd link it to your post, but don't know how...We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. High quality food, a nice wine list, a creative chef in Jonathan Krinn. All in all, very good dining. Expensive, but good. And, since they're in Virginia, they don't allow corkage. I'd highly recommend the restaurant as well.

2941 isn't exactly new, it's been around for several years. It bills itself as a little bit of Manhattan chic in the Virginia countryside. It overlooks an artificial lake, over which the sun sets and the restaurant has wood and sparkling glass walls, with 12-foot-tall rubber jellyfish surrounded by waterfalls, marble goldfish pools, and an outdoor terrace. On complaint, at certain times, the sun hits the windows in such a way as to be painful on the eyes.

As T-Rep said, it's in VA so no corkage. Good breads (the bakery is in-house), large serving sizes, and good food. And the meal used to end (it may still, I haven't been in a while) with cotton candy. Pricy, but not overly so for the area. Not the easiest place to find if you aren't from NVA, and the the restaurant is in one of those anonymous suburban office buildings, but once inside, it is quite nice.

My former coworker owns the building, I think. I'm guessing they're just trying to get the word out more, to help pick up traffic.

I'm not sure how much of a "plus" a 12-foot tall jellyfish is, but, hey, why not.

But how do you cook a 12 foot long rubber jellyfish? It wasn't on the menu in April....

Apparently there is a chef's table there that is really special. I have to make it out someday soon.

This place is only a distant to do restaurant list-er for me. Too far. DC is soooo close and there are so many DC places I have yet to try (or at least repeat recently).

My wife and I had an anniversary dinner there. It is high on my "not recommended list".
