Closest local place for me would have to be Pasta Plus in Laurel, MD. another great place that is on the way home from work for me is Cafe de Paris in Columbia, MD. Casey's Crab Co make some pretty delicious takeout seafood and their just south of the NSA.

Unfortunately, there is nothing within walking distance from my home, and if you tend to not mind a long walk, I'd have to tack on the words '..that are worthy of going to...'

Not in my neighborhood, but on my way home from work, A Cote and Oliveto Cafe, both on College Avenue in Oakland's Rockridge area are worthy of mention.

wow. my Sister-in-law and her husband used to live up the hill from A Cote and Oliveto.... I know exaclty where they are, been to both for drinks but no food....they recently moved to NoVa much to their dismay.

A Cote was their favorite place. great Mohitos there too.

I think they even went to a party/wine dinner there with Manfred Krankl in attendance.

sorry for the excitement... just didn't expect to recognize 2 places in that area of the country.

I'd have to go with Foothill Cafe. I ride my bike there sometimes.

It used to be Cafe Lucy Le Petite Bistro. But they closed.

I'm also a regular at Tacqueria El Sombrero.

These are all in Napa, btw.

When I'm working in Santa Rosa, I'm a regular at Zazu.

Olive Garden is to Italian food what MacDonald's is to steak.

Not steak. Their quality is even less.

Within walking distance from my house would be The Lost Dog Cafe.
Mexican/Tex-Mex: Tanqueria Poblano
All Around Great Neighborhood Restaruant Winner: The Boulevard Woodgrill.
Runners Up: Uncommon Grounds (coffee house), Ray's The Steaks (intuitive)

In Campbell, it was El Burro. I have been eating Chile Verde there since I was 5 or so... I think I'm going to have my wife box some up and bring it home with her on Saturday.

If I lived in Healdsburg, it might be the El Sombrero.

There are a lot of good places to eat here in the DC suburbs. My favorite neighborhood places are Le Mannequin Pis in Olney, MD (great mussels), Bombay Bistro in Rockville, and El Nopalita Grill for great Mexican (not Tex-Mex) food.

That (great places withiin walking distance) is something I really miss from our days in NYC.

My neighborhood has restaurants, they are just really far away

Honestly, how many people live somewhere where there is NO food delivery available to their house?

Okay, don't answer here.... I'll start a new thread.

Paul, the best confit we've had in Californai was at Fringale. We walked there from the Marriott, but we walked through an unsavory area and took a cab back.

Yeah, the last block is a bit ugly, but it is really perfectly safe. There is a Whole Foods two blocks away now and the foot traffic has really picked up. Being asked for a handout two or three times is the worst that's ever happened to me.

No such thing as neighborhood restaurants out here on the fringes of suburbia. Everything is a chain.

Neighborhood restaurants require drives of 10 miles or more.

Gabrielle.

The owners/chefs are dear friends of ours. We have Friday Lunch, with a capital "L," there every week. It just keeps getting better and better. Six blocks away. A nice walk along the bayou.

Drew,

Chile Verde at El Burro... my favorite for at least 35 years . Only problem is that the tortillas stick together .
