| We've been to Northern CA and Southern CA, but never to LA. We're going to be taking a cruise from LA next year and will be arriving on a Friday evening, probably getting to a hotel about 10 PM. We'd like to go out for dinner, then get to sleep. We'll be leaving the hotel about 11 AM the next morning, so we don't need a fancy place. What we're looking for is someplace between the airport and the Port of San Pedro. Is there someplace along the way that you'd recommend we stay, possibly within walking distance or a short cab ride from a nice restaurant that will be serving dinner well past 10PM on a Friday night? Tia. | | |

| Board-O, Can we assume that you're talking about LAX, or one of the other LA area airports (ONT, BUR, SNA, LGB, etc.)? I'd probably have guessed that you'd fly JetBlue directly from LGA into LGB (if for no other reason, it seems to make sense alphabetically ), but when one says "Los Angeles" it usually means LAX, so ... ? | | | Cheers, y'all | |

| Board-O - Not much going on in San Pedro area.....Ports o' Call is the only area that I know that has anytype of dinning. You can go to Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach area but Long Beach is much closer to San Pedro. Have fun! | |

| I appreciate the help. How far is Torrance from the Port of San Pedro in distance and Saturday morning drive time? | | | |

| Half-hour to an hour depending on traffic, most likely it will take the shorter. But I would recommend staying somewhere in Long Beach instead, that way your morning would be stress free. | | | |

| Sharky, how far from Long Beach to the Port of San Pedro? Any hotels/motels in the area near any good restaurants open late? | | | |

| Too bad you're having to fly into LAX. Long Beach Airport is very close to San Pedro and about a thousand times easier to get in and out of from a baggage, traffic and rental car standpoint.
From what I remember of the area (I've been there quite a few times on business) I don't really recall any "Good" restaurants in the area that would be open that late. The best bet IMO would be get something on the way down then check into a hotel and crash for the evening. There are options up by LAX that Landshark already posted on the other LA thread. Otherwise, you might go a little out of the way on the way down and be able to find something in the Manhattan or Redondo Beach areas. Most of the hotels I can recall in the Long Beach area are just very basic chain or mom & pop hotels. FWIW. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone.

| A basic chain hotel is fine for the night. I'd rather get to the hotel first. Bringing suitcases into a restaurant doesn't sound like fun. | | | |

| There is a Holiday Inn at Lakewood Blvd and the 405 that would be really easy access for you the night you arrive and a pretty short commute the following morning. It is a tower building that has been there quite a while but the rooms have been remodeled recently. I last stayed there in December. Sign up for the Priority Club on their website and use that number with your reservation. You'll get one of the nicer rooms on the Priority Club level. They have a restaurant FWIW. If you get caught getting in too late and just need some food to ram down your throat their is a Spires right across the street (basic 24 hour diner food). The rest of the hotels I'm aware of in the Long Beach area are closer to or in Downtown. With the exception of the Courtyard by Marriott most are high end places like the Hyatt, Westin, Renaissance, etc... | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

If you stay in Torrance, you can go straight down Pacfic Coast Higway from Torrance to San Pedro, about 15 minutes and avoid freeways. Long Beach Holiday inn is much further away and you would need to go on the freeway to San Pedro unless you cut towards the ocean.

| I agree with Lakersguy. If you're willing to stay in Torrance it is on virtually a straight line from LAX to San Pedro and a very easy commute the next morning. | | | Joe-----Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. | |

| I am pretty close to San Pedro and although it can seem pretty sparse as far as restaurants go there is one place that I am fond of called Neil's it is a nice Italian place on W. 5th Street. Also in neighboring Palos Verdes area there is a new place called Bistro 767 which is very good, nice wine list and excellent food and about 15 minutes from Pedro. It is located at 767 Deep Valley Drive in Rolling Hills Estates
If you go for the Long Beach option I like called 555 which is a steak house right off of Ocean Ave. another option would be L'Opera also right there on Ocean Ave. Both are very good.
Good luck,
