So, Kinkead's has gone downhill, Pesce lost its chef and isn't any good, Oceanaire isn't my style...

Anyone have a good, fresh fish place in DC that I should try?

I agree with whiner. When we were @ Kinkead's, I thought the food was OK. But, not worth the money.

Pesce: although Bobby Beard has left, Tom Meyer, the sous chef for many years has taken over. We went there for lunch and had very nice fish entrees. I'd be willing to try it for dinner. Blows Johnny's Half Shell "out of the water".

Johnny's Half Shell is nicht so gut? I understood Johnny's always was a bit expensive for the portions, but I hadn't heard it was, er, nicht so gut.

Johnny's needs to learn how and when to use salt correctly. Pretty fundamental stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions...

FYI:

TJ, yeah. L and I went to Kinkeads a year ago and it was terrific. The last time we went there was in April and it was good, but not nearly as good as the first time we went. I've also been hearing only lukewarm things about it from people who've gone there in the past 4 months or so. Even one of the chefs there says, privately, that he thinks it has gone downhill.

Corkage, I was at Pesce recently and, while the fish was very fresh, I found they used WAY too much butter. I almost couldn't finish my main course because I was getting more butter than Mahi-Mahi. The crab cakes were good, but also a bit buttery. Maybe we just caught it on an off day?

I've not been to DC Coast but I'll try it.

Thanks!
