Heading out to the Left Coast for a family wedding in late June, early July and plan on spending a week in San Diego before the big event in Santa Monica. I know the rehearsal dinner is at Duke's Restaurant in Malibu. I have read the posts on San Diego and was wondering if any of the suggestions were also kid friendly (ages 7 and 9)? Looking for a place the kids can enjoy while Mom and Dad share a nice bottle. The wife made the reservations at the Bahia Resort near Mission Bay. Spending the fourth at Disneyland so I think we would like to grab some nice dinners out in San Diego before we get there. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You are fairly close to Thee Bungalow at your hotel. It would probably suffice as long as you keep the little brats a bit quiet.

I am kidding of course but of the San Diego restaurants discussed, it's probably your best bet.

We love Thee Bungalow, but I don;t think I've seen any children there, but I'd bow to GA's greater experience. If you go, I'd suggest the Quennelles de Brochet appetizer. Great wine list at fair prices.

Thanks GA and Board O! I never have to worry about my kids causing a ruckus, but Mrs. IC is another story! Put a little wine in and WHOO-HOO!! If you have any other suggestions for a place to try please let me know! My kids always are up for a new place and are great eaters. They will try anything once...and like most of it!

If your kids are old enough to appreciate the situation and behave well, you might try two of other favorite places, though these are also places you won't normally find kids.

Rainwater's on Kendrick was a great restaurant with wine list to match. Itis right in town.

Outside of town, maybe 20 minutes, is Wineseller and Brasserie. Downstairs is a retail wine store and upstairs a very good bistro. The wines on the restaurant wine list are available for purchase at retail prices on your way out, so if yu like the wine you've had with dinner, you can buy some to take home. We did.

Try Cuvee in La Jolla or Meritage in Encinitas. Both are wine and corkage friendly but a little farther from your hotel.

Meritage has a half price wine night and Cuvee has $8 corkage and IIRC 15% markup over retail. Thee Bungalow has better food IMO.
