Spent Memorial Day weekend with The Rocket Scientist at Pelican Bay at Our Lucaya on Grand Bahama Island. She finished her dive certification and I tagged along for the good times. Other than her dives, we didn't venture outside the resort and surrounding areas.
Friday: Dinner at Luciano's, a French restaurant with an Italian name. We split grilled salmon in a light cream sauce and shrimp in a cognac and cream sauce after a shrimp cocktail appetizer. The shrimp was kind of flavorless but the sauce was nice. The salmon was very tasty. Had a bottle of random, overpriced but drinkable Sancerre.
Saturday: Dinner at The Ferry House, adjoining the Pelican Bay property. Stone Crab Claw appetizer. Sweet and succulent, but still not blue crab. She had grilled mahi mahi, I had sesame crusted tuna medallions. Both were very good. The rum raisin Madeline for dessert was decent. Had a bottle of random, overpriced but drinkable Sauvignon Blanc and followed with an overpriced snifter of Hennessy XO.
Sunday: Lunch at Zorba's Greek in Port Lucaya Marketplace. A hole in the wall, almost deli/fast food-like place. Decent effort at Greek salad and pork (wtf?--where's the lamb?) Souvlaki. Saganaki (fried feta) with rum instead of ouzo flambe.
Dinner at Giovani's in the marketplace (on the recommendation of the dive master). The less said, the better. Crostini that wasn't particularly crusty. We both had lobster dishes (mine in a cream sauce, hers in a tomato) that we expected would have medallions of lobster. Instead, we got breaded chunks of lobster. Had a bottle of random, overpriced, but drinkable Pinot Grigio.
Monday: Lunch at The Ferry House. Apple, walnut, and bleu cheese salad followed by tiger prawn stir fry for both of us. Very nice.
The Ferry House was the clear winner, but mostly due to the lack of competition. Except for Zorba's, everything was VERY expensive (avg price of dinners about $175) and certainly none a value. I advise eating on the cheap there; the quality isn't going to be much worse, and will more reflect the price.
We subsequently heard that La Dolce Vita and Shenanigan's Irish Pub were the best of the restaurants in the marketplace.
Wine was incredibly overpriced (no less than 300% markup) with weak selections. At Ferry House, Veuve NV was $125!!! Although other alcohols were cheap in the shops, anything made with grapes was ludicrous.
Made a few stops into the Isle of Capri Casino. Smallish, with few gaming tables, but very friendly atmosphere. The blackjack dealers were very pleasant, and dealt about a third fewer hands per hour than Vegas dealers. It made counting cards very easy

We brought back some rum, some more rum, some Drambuie, and some Di Saronno, all a bargain at the tax-free shop.
All in all, it was a nice, very relaxing weekend for me (I slept or read in the mornings while she dove), but I won't hurry back.
