| | We recieved the entire Lenox collection for our wedding and love them, and if one breaks it is pretty inexpensive to replace them. Our local Burdines carries the Burgundy along with the entire collection along with a Lenox outlet about a hour away. | | | |

| | Rothko: (and everyone else). What we need is the equivalent of a "secret handshake", or "password" whereby VC members with wedding crystal take out these glasses whenever other VC members come to visit, or take them to offlines. Pour your VC guest a glass of wine and give him/her the secret signal signifying that you'd prefer to never see that glass again. You can say something like: "I brought out the nice glasses for you." The guest then proceeds to accidently break the offending glass, and apologizes profusely, even promising to pay for the damage. One glass down, and no blame to you. I figure after about 2 years of visits by the likes of us, your problem will be solved. | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

| JimmyV - Mrs Rothko has recently joined VC as a member. Your suggestion, albeit clever, insidious, and brilliant, has probably been compromised.
Nice try. | | | |

| Why not get divorced, give her the crystal in the settlement, then get remarried. This time you can have a better gift registry.

| The lovely gold-rimmed wedding crystal sits in the cupboard while the Riedel and Spiegelau glasses get used daily... if I knew then what I know now.... | | The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits... ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon. | |

| | My older son got married this past August. His wife insisted on the cut crystal wine glasses even though I told her the others were more functional. I'm quickly learning to proffer any advice. | | | |

| I have some mikasa stems that I use for most of my wine consumption. I think the line is the "vivendi" line- not sure if it is still in production or not. Nice big bowls, decent shape, thin rims.. They are machine blown by riedel I think. $5 per stem. I also have a smattering of the amazon speigelau stuff for specialty white, champagne, port, etc.
Actually I am not afraid of using my cut crystal for certain occasions, either. Christofle Alizes line that is surprisingly wine-friendly due to being only cut on the base/stem and otherwise being very plain (although rim is a little on the thick side).
Personally I think stemware is a bit over emphasized. There is a HUGE difference between good stems with cut rims and poor glassware with thick glass/rolled rims.. but the difference between basic stems (spiegelau, low end riedel, etc) and the high end, high $$ stems are quite subtle and not enough to blow that kind of cash. | | | |

| | Smaug, it really depends on the glass as to the difference. There is a large difference between the Speigelau Vino Grande Champagne flute and the Riedel Somm Vintage Champagne glass. Likewise there is a huge difference between the Riedel Vinum Burgundy and the Riedel Somm Burgundy. The difference may not be worth the cost (or it may be worth it) but the difference is real and detectable. | | | |

| | True, but we have to hand wash them, and if I am hand washing all of the wine glasses, I want to use the dishwasher for the water glasses. | | | |
