That is why tasting blind is the best way to get a true evalutaion. No pre-concieved notions.

Blind tasting has many positives. However, I think blind tasting is a poor vehicle for learning about wine. Some people are more susceptible to pre-conceived notions. When I know what is in my glass, I am much more inclined to expect more thus lowering a rating if anything.

If by evaluation you mean figuring out which one tastes the best then I agree with you. if you are evaluating the wines as a group (as a vintage, region, what have you) then it helps to have some information to go on.

Great convo. Knowing what is in my glass, I think can affect my perceptions, but I wouldtend to agree with Jones, if anything it might be more likely to lower my rating.

I really enjoy starting off tasting blind. Then it is fun to see what you are drinking and taste again.

It is hard to get preconceived notions out of my mind.

When I was starting out, I greatly appreciated more learned persons tasting with me and telling me what to notice / taste for in particular varietals. I particularly remember the first sauterne I'd had having no idea what I was tasting and asking if it was even any good!

Course, now I love my dessert wines and have found it's the easiest way to get my wife to agree on wine purchase if I throw a few in
