| | Geez, I've never siphoned, but I have several questions. Do you use a rubber hose? If so, how do you clean it and does it impart any taste to the wine? What do you do, suck on the end and then place it in a decanter and pinch it or put your finger over the end to pause between decanters? Doesn't the sucking action stir up sediment? It seems that as you near the bottom of the bottle you'd have to tilt the bottle and the hose might swing around and pick up sediment? I'm not criticizing the method, having never done it, but it seems more trouble with more variables than simple slow pouring. | | | |

| | To go back a couple of postings, congrats Grapefull on an incredible day with a truly special bottle. Both the event and the bottle will surely seem to pass quickly. Enjoy and remember. Then post notes before you leave for your honeymoon so your wife understands prioritization. | | | |

Board-O's approach will add elegance and tradition, enhancing the overall experience. However, if you want clean wine:

leave it upright for several days and siphon into decanters.
It's been upright for the last three days and will be siphon.
Thanks All for your good wishes!

| | Most wineries us a small-diameter rubber hose to fill off-size bottles i.e. 375 and mags up. | | | |

| Board-O ... don't think garden rubber hose. Think sterilized rubber/plastic hose used for siphoning from demijohns or barrels into decanters. You never put the hose right to the bottom anyway.
The amount of sediment stirred up when tilting the bottle to get those last drops would be no different than what fluffs up when decanting a 750mL bottle in the normale manner.

| | I didn't think a garden hose was used. Sterilized? LOL You can't sterilize rubber with heat. It's porous so any strong chemicals would leave a residue. I'll decant the way I have for years. It's never failed me and I choose not to have my wine sucked out of the bottle through a rubber or plastic hose. | | | |
