Quality to Price Ratio.
I'll let people a lot smarter than me explain it in detail.

| | In theory, a bottle of '59 Lafite selling for $500 would be an incredible QPR wine. However, no one seems to use it that way. It has become a metric for low priced wines with reasonable quality. | | | |

| What budman posted, example:
Let's say you buy & drink ~$13.00 bottle that you really enjoy (i.e. 03 Catena Chard). You rate it (on your scale) an ~87.
Then, you buy a 99 Del Dotto Giavanni ~$60.00, & you rate it an 83 (as I did).
The 03 Catena Chard is a great QPR. The 99 Del Dotto Giavanni(sp?) is a bad QPR. Made me want to cry, actually.

| Take the retail price of a wine you want to purchase. Divide that price by the average retail price of an LGQ wine. This equals the QPR.
It is somewhat easier to just look at the price compared to how you enjoy the wine (duh). If it is cheap and tastes good it is a good QPR. If it isn't... you should never ever ever buy a wine that is not a good QPR
LGQ = like goods and quality.

| Welcome eddie!
QPR is a relative term. But generally equates in to how good a wine is versus its price. But you can't really formulaicly apply a rule to come up with a number that a given wine could espouse to be its QPR rating. An example--
$10 bottle of wine, rates a 90 one could say has a QPR rating of 9 (rating divided by price, let's say). While a $30 bottle of wine that rates a 90 would only rate a QPR rating of 3. Now, if you can find a $10 bottle you rate a 90, you'd certainly want to load up. But that doesn't mean the $30 bottle of wine is 3 times worse a buy. It all depends.
Taken to the extreme, if you find a bottle that costs $500 and rates a perfect 100, it would only have a QPR rating of 0.2. But it is still a perfect bottle of wine in your mind. It might be rare or highly allocated. It might be worth it to you to experience that. | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| tj, I have never heard of such a system as you are describing. Actually coming up with a .2 QPR number.
To me, QPR is simply a bottle of wine that drinks like one that is much more expensive vis a vis its peer group.

| Damn you Dave - that's my gag.
I reckon you could put QPR on a log scale and come up with a number. It would be meaningless of course. AND it is not a ****ing Ratio. Whatever is wrong with the term Value for Money(VFM)?

| | I totally agree that QPR shouldn't be drilled down to a stooopid ratio or rating. It's what jb said, basically... | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com | |
