| Once upon a time someone posted a wine color wheel, but for the life of me I can't find it or google for it, and I'm a damn good googler!
Any info?
Also, anyone have a link they really like that has every single grape used for making wine? | | If you drink wine, you get smarter....

| My post was the "aroma wheel" that NCVL has posted above. If you are talking about the "color" of grapes or wine I have never seen such a thing. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
When I first started tasting wine the aroma wheel was a great help. I still use it when I am stumped on an aroma. Only problem with the aroma wheel is that it doesn't include all of the aromas like "new tennis balls" or "tyco plastic".

| If it is the "aroma wheel" you are looking for let me tell you one of the most interesting wine education classes I have ever taken. Believe it or not, it is offered by Mondavi Winery.
Quote:
The Essence Tour & Tasting Tuesdays at 10 a.m. -- also Mondays & Tuesdays at 2 p.m., seasonally This three-hour adventure explores the sensory evaluation of wine. Offered throughout the year, the Essence Tour & Tasting unveils the mysteries of aromatic essences commonly associated with red and white wines such as green apple, leather, peach, smoke, pineapple and oak. The tour and tasting focus on the influences of soil, climate and the artful hand of the winemaker in developing the nuances of Robert Mondavi wines. The Essence Tour & Tasting is limited to 8 persons. The tariff is $35 per person.
If this is the same course I took several years ago it is fantastic. The guide had gone out early that morning and picked fresh flowers and the like for smelling. Along with the flowers she had things like chocolate chips, coca cola, all different kinds of berries; over 50 different essesences that she put in wine glasses around the room. The challange was to nose different wines and then go around to the different stations and pick out the essesence. Really it was a real live aroma wheel. Really helped me at the time to get a hold of aromas in a very objective way.
Mondavi Classes
Now I am not presently a big fine of Mondavi wine at the moment but this class pertains to really any and all wines.

| Revlis,
There are something like 6000+ different types of grapes used for wine and I believe ofer 1000 Vitis Vinifera used. And those numbers are probably conservative. I believe there are a few sites that list them all, but they are a massive pain usually to sort through.
UC Davis has their 2003-2004 dormant list out at:

Which is pretty inclusive of things planted in California. | | Paul Romero - Owner/Winemaker Stefania Wine www.stefaniawine.com

| I've never seen a color wheel either, other than the aroma wheel. But there is this little guide booklet that does have a color chart...

I bought one of these at a winery last year. It's kinda cute. I don't think I paid much more than $5 for it. | | The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits... ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon.

| LOL. I know there are clones and what not.. I'm only entering in the major varietals into the database.
Just ONE Chardonnay, just ONE pinot noir, etc.
Great link though... I can sort out the duplicates easily enough. THanks.
Oh, and yes.. .it's a grape COLOR wheel. Maybe more of a graph than a wheel... I remember it vividly but can not for the life of me find it now. | | If you drink wine, you get smarter....

Gosh, this must've been within my first six months of joining WS. So 1 1/2 to 2 years ago.......
The colors were lined up in rows... with a gradual change in color, and each color listing what grape the color represented. | | If you drink wine, you get smarter....
