| That is why tasting blind is the best way to get a true evalutaion. No pre-concieved notions.

| | Blind tasting has many positives. However, I think blind tasting is a poor vehicle for learning about wine. Some people are more susceptible to pre-conceived notions. When I know what is in my glass, I am much more inclined to expect more thus lowering a rating if anything. | | | |

| | If by evaluation you mean figuring out which one tastes the best then I agree with you. if you are evaluating the wines as a group (as a vintage, region, what have you) then it helps to have some information to go on. | | | |

| | Great convo. Knowing what is in my glass, I think can affect my perceptions, but I wouldtend to agree with Jones, if anything it might be more likely to lower my rating. | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com | |

| I really enjoy starting off tasting blind. Then it is fun to see what you are drinking and taste again.
It is hard to get preconceived notions out of my mind.

| When I was starting out, I greatly appreciated more learned persons tasting with me and telling me what to notice / taste for in particular varietals. I particularly remember the first sauterne I'd had having no idea what I was tasting and asking if it was even any good!
Course, now I love my dessert wines and have found it's the easiest way to get my wife to agree on wine purchase if I throw a few in
