| For one trying to learn the ins and outs of Bordeauxs, is this a "must-have" or is there something better.
Yes, I know, tasting beats all, but the book is cheaper in the interim.

| imo this is a must own. not only is it a must own it is a must read from cover to cover. sure you could use it to cherry pick certain info but to get the full knowledge i am reading it from the front to the back. i have learned quite a bit already. the only fault i find is that there should be phonetic spellings of the chateaus for people like me who know nothing of the french language | | | |

| i believe parker's guide to bordeaux is one of the best books, especially for american consumers. i would also buy the previous edition.
anthony-to learn some basic french, pick up the book, wine access france. you could also find a french speaking friend.

| Ant I'm with you -
I can spout off the names of every Classified Chateaux, Problem is that no one would know what I'm talking about since I am saying most of them wrong
I get real mad about this because I do so much research but I feel intimidated sometimes to speak because many people will think less of my opinion due to bad pronounciation.
The same thing happened on wine boards, people often didn't take me serious because of my spelling and grammer. I can't help it, it's a learning disability - but I think some people don't believe what you say (or write) if it isn't presented properly.

| Make that most people TCK. Appearances count. Whether they should or not is another question. | | | |

| | your right about that. usually the sharpest dressed, well spoken bullshitter always wins out in the end, even if he is clueless. | | | |

| Maybe. But if you want to pronounce some of the French names correctly there are some websites that can help...

There are some that you will realize that the majority of English speakers pronounce incorrectly most of the time.

| There are a couple that even the French fight over the pronunciation.
Cos d'Estournel - Coh or Cos? Apparently is it pronounced differently in the Northern part of France vs. Bordeaux
Petrus - Petroos, Petruus or Petruuu ?? Share a bottle with me and I'll pronounce it however you want to.
