| When I use this term I mean -
A wine that does not taste as developed or as far along in maturity as other wines of the same variety and vintage. A wine who's components haven't come together yet but often has potential.
I see it used often in a context that doesn't seem to fit my definition
How do others use this word?

| Maybe it means out of balance to some? As in, if it isn't a pure 100% expression of the varietal, perhaps the blending varietal characteristics are peeking through and showing up? Placing the cart before the horse?
Just a thought. Good topic. | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

| A wine that requires longer than average time--for its varietal--in the cellar to open up and reveal its nuances.
As opposed to "forward," which shows all it has while young.
