Does anybody know the difference of Zwicker and Edelzwicker in Alsatian bottle?

I know that both are blends, but is it a same thing? Can You or do You have to use noble grapes?

Lauri,

My understanding is that Zwicker can be a blend of any of the local grapes, while Edelzwicker can ONLY have noble grapes, which are defined locally as Riesling, Gewurz., Muscat and Pinot Gris (locally known as Tokay d'Alsace).

Cheers, y'all

Terve Lauri,

Stemor is right. I wold only add that Zwicker has almost enitirely disappeared, you're far more likely to find Edelzwicker today. (Which I believe also can be labeled Gentil in French.)

I'll try to look this one up, though.

Cheers,
Markus
