| Wine Library is the only place I know of that sells this wine, and a search on Wine Searcher backs this up. The back of the bottle says: Produced and Bottled by Santa Maunela Winery-Arroyo Grande. Is this some sort of outfit that buys up leftover bulk grapes/juice, or is it an actual winery. I bought 2 bottles of the '01 Edna Valley Reserve Chardonnay ($16.99) to round out a mixed case, and would love to know what I've got in my basement. Anyone have any insights? I could find nothing about this winery on the web.
By the way, I had one last night, and while not distasteful, I found it waaaay too sweet. Like 5% residual sugar kind of sweet. My second bottle will be used to try to "flip" a White Zin drinker over to the good side. | | Beta testing a new signature.

| | I don't about the winery but I am not a fan of the name - talk about tempting fate. | | | |

| I suspect Wine Library has an exclusive type of deal with whoever Sharpshooter is. My guess is that they buy a ton of it cheap, and try to market it as if it were the second coming of Kistler. If it works, everybody in the food chain makes money. I tried it last year. Columbia Crest and Meridian were twice as good at less than half the price.
This may be the same type of thing (for those of you who are familiar) that the Total Wine chain does with Golden State Vintners stable of wines. When you go into a Total Wine store, every Golden State brand (Edgewood/Summerfield etc) is on EVERY aisle in the store. Every time you turn a corner, there's more of it. Most of it is not worth buying!
Sorry for the rant. I lost it there for a moment.

| | Just a retailer that has opted to buy the whole allotment of something, make up their own prices and charge whatever they want and then let Gary V. rate it 89-91 so Bud will buy some. Zachys does it with Wilson Daniels chardonnay. They say it is a $30 chard for $20. I can tell you that some of the juice comes from Silverado. I know nothing of the Sharpshooter. I do know that my offering on 2000 Tignanello tomorrow will be cheaper than the "lowest price in the United States" if all goes as planned. | | | |

| | I have two years of the Sharpshooter Chard, and honestly, they are fairly decent. I think the price isn't too high for the quality. I bought about four each year.. They are both very thick Chards, very buttery, lots of extraction... Worth a try IMHO. I forget what I rated them, but definitely high 80's. | | If you drink wine, you get smarter.... | |

| | You mean they would be better calling it Phylloxera Vineyards? | | | |
