My in-laws have a tradition of buying a case of wine for the year their children were born.  At each important adult milestone of that child, they open a bottle of the wine.  For my husband they bought a case of 1975 Dow's Port.  Over the years we've opened a few bottles (college gradutation, law school graduation, engagement, wedding, birth of our first child).  This summer we are celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary with a trip to The French Laundry in Napa and this seems to be a perfect opportunity to open another bottle.

The problem is there will only be 2 of us drinking it this time.  Is it possible to keep the port drinkable for a few days, so we can enjoy it over the 4 days of our trip?  If we want to have the first glass or two at FL, they'll need to decant it, right?  Can they just pour what we don't drink back into the same bottle?   Should we get a vaccuum sealer to keep it fresh?

Any advice is appreciated!

Cheers!

Yes it will keep for a few days, yes they can decant it, rinse the bottle and pour it back in with no problem. Your in luck because for Dow's they only have the 1955 vintage so you would be able to byo it, of course even with only a glass or so out of it you will still be paying the $50 corkage.
