| Hi,
If one loves Chardonnay and the other loves Sweet wine (but have tried Vouvray). What kind of wine will be pleasing to both? It is hopefully not something too harsh. Thanks. | | | |

| I need a definition for "sweet". Do you mean sweet as in "lots of sugar" or do you mean "the absence of sour"?
There are dozens of sweet wines made with Chardonnay that will certainly satisfy the sweet but there will be no characteristics that are associated with Chardonnay dry wines.
I would suggest you try a Rombauer Chardonnay. It isn't overly sweet but it also is not at all bitter and does show some of the characteristics of the grape itself (although most of it is masked by oak that gives it a big vanilla and buttered pop corn taste). A Chardonnay "purist" would tell you that the Rombauer is a "terrible" Chardonnay because it is over-oaked. Don't worry about that; if you like the taste screw the guy who says it is lousy. 90% of those people are kidding themselves and are closet oak drinkers.
If you find you like the Rombauer you can start exploring different Chardonnays. We can give you some suggestions from there you might try.
You might want to try a white Zinfandel; that is really sweet.
Or try a red Pinot Noir that has more-extracted fruit like a Loring.
Find a wine store that does tastings. Ask when they are pouring Chardonnays or other white wines. The reason they do the tastings is so you, the consumer, can find wines you like to drink. That's what this whole "obsession" is all about. | | | |
