| We just moved to State College, PA from California and I am moving my wine collection with me. In California, I used an off-site storage place but now I want to store my wine in my house (since I actually could afford a house here where I could fit the wine).
My two options are buy a wine cabinet (a Le Cache or something similar) or convert an unfurnished room in the lower level of the house to a wine cellar.
Although I would prefer the wine cellar, my concerns are that I have absolultely no handy skills whatsoever so I would have to hire someone to do everything. Wine cellars are not exactly huge out here in central PA so I would probably have to hire someone with no experience in building one.
Basically, I am looking for advice/opinions on whether it makes sense to convert the room or just go the easier route with the cabinet. Any estimates on what it will cost to convert the unfurnished space? I don't need anything fancy, I just want a working cellar that can hold about 1500 bottles or so.
By the way, I have the Gold book and it is like reading Japanese to me so it is very little help (at least for me),

| I would love to do a passive cellar but my concern is that the lower level is partially furnished (family room and office) and therefore, being in PA, the heat will be on from time to time and I am nervous about a passive wine room on the same floor. Is that a valid concern or will the heat stay out of the passive room if I insulate it correctly?
Thanks for the websites, I will check those out and try to get some estimates...
I appreciate the help..
