| I keep reading on here about people being allocated estate wines, and mailers, and places to order wines...is that how you guys buy your wines? Im assuming that you arent going down to the local grocer and picking up a bottle, right? What are some of the email lists you guys belong to? what are some of the online places that you visit that are wine related?
Im sorry if I am asking too many dumb questions, but I really only want to learn.

| | In the wine commerce section you will find current discussions of many of the retailers that people here use often for wine purchases both in person and over the internet. The mailers and internet purchases do make up a good percentage of purchases for most people, but I would still venture to say that most people still buy a bulk of their wine at their local retailer. | | | |

| I would suggest that you do not join one of these wine clubs where they send you a couple of bottles every couple of months. 90% of what you get imo is crap.
Go and introduce yourself to someone at your local wine shop. Tell him exactly what you are asking here as to what to drink. He/she should be able to help you out just fine in the beginning (until the time it takes for you to know more that he/she does about wine---which probably won't be a long time at all).

| I kind of feel stupid when I go into the store and start asking questions...I get people looking at me like I have three heads or something. I'm new to this whole thing and some people think that because THEY know something that everyone should know. I kind of hate it when I ask a question and the person I ask kind of chuckles before giving me his answer with a smirk. I think that is why I find message boards to ask my stupid questions...LOL. I cant see the responders smirking back at me.
I will take your advice though, David...Ill go find someone in the store to help me out...

| If the person in the store laughs at you you probably don't want that arrogant bastard's advice. Ask someone else.
I assume you don't have that much choice of retail stores.
You might want to look at some wine ads and post here asking what we think of the different wines there. It is very hard to just make a recommendation out of the clear blue sky because there is no way to know what is available.
I recommend that you pick up a copy of any Friday's Wall Street Journal. There is a wine column in the back section written by the husband and wife team Dot Gaiter and John Brecher that could be very interesting to newbies like you. You'll learn as much there as anywhere else and pretty quick you'll think they are elementary. Maybe subscribe to the Journal on-line and look up the columns in their archives.
I think the following statement is very true especially about wine: There is no such thing as a stupid question.
