| I have a VERY good friend that isn't into wine. He was gifted this bottle sometime in the late 70's and would like to know what it really is.
1969 Monopole La Tache appelation: La Tache controlle H. D. Villaine
The real strange thing is the bottle is 3 pint 2 ounces... which I think translates into 2 Litres.
Anybody? | | | |

| | That would be a 1969 Domaine Romanee Conti LaTache. If it has been stored correctly that will be a great drink. | | | |

| | That's a 1969 DRC LaTache. The 3 pints 2 ounces is 50 ounces which is 1.5L almost exactly (1.5L is actually .6 ounces more). Michael Broadbent gave this 5 stars. The big quextion is how well was the bottle stored. If the bottle was given good care then it should still be a very fine bottle of wine. If it was allowed to sit on top of the refrigerator then you have some very expensive maderized pinot. | | | |

| | Agree with skwid. 1969 was a great year in Burgundy and prosuced longer lived wines than some other highly rated vintages like 1971 and 1976. With good provenance, it could be spectacular. | | | |

| Isn't into wine, and has had the bottle since the late seventies...
I'm not sensing a happy ending here. | | | |

| | I still haven't seen the bottle. It is labeled bottle number 000035 and is also signed by someone. | | | |

"Domaine de la Romanee-Conti is without question the most famous estate in Burgundy and arguably the greatest. The domaine has 25 hectares of vineyards, all Grand Crus, including the jewel in the crown, the 1.8 hectare monopole of Romanée-Conti. Yields are mind numbingly low and the winemaking is traditional and perfectionist. These are wines made for the long haul and for those who wish to experience liquid heaven. "
H.D. Villaine is member of one of the two families (the Leroy family is the other) that co-own Domaine de la Romanee-Conti -
