Let's say one was fooling around with lower end Rosenblum and Ravenswood Zins and wanted to get more serious...what are some of the better bets in widely available, reasonably priced Zinfandel ? Say if one was to buy themselves some xmas presents.

Thanks

I don't know what might be available to you in Canada, but here are some suggestions, in no particular order:

Turley
Ridge
Outpost
Novy
Hartford
Carlisle
Radio Coteau
Howell Mnt Vineyards
Brochelle
ZinAlley

It depends on what "reasonable" means. Ridge and Hartford Court better Zins can be found for under $30. Go for the 2002 vintage. Ridge nade a 2002 Late Picked Pagani Ranch for around $25 that was excellent. I doubt you'll find the 2001 Hartford Court Highwire, but it's the best Zin I've ever had that didn't come from Martinelli or Turley.

Thnaks to both, I'm going to run those names through the LCBO and SAQ sites and see what sticks.

I'm sure I've seen some ridge stuff in there but hope to see the others.

Reasonable to me means 20-50 canadian dollars.

Not much to + following Eric_W's post. Welcome, KeithTalent.

By the way, why do the Leafs choke ever year even after getting our Brian Leetch?

unfortunetly KeithTalent, the only brand i've seen in the lcbo is ridge, and they are a significant(although generally worthwhile) jump in price. not sure about quebec's saq.

Lost to a Philly club that was deeper up front. Painful. Leetch played well. I was at his debut against the islanders where he racked up a bunch of points.

Just out of interest, here's what was available. Prices CAD (which isn't so far off USD lately)

LCBO

Hartford 2001 $36
Ridge 2001 $28

SAQ

Turley Tofanelli 2001 $75
Zinfandel Pringle Family Howell Mountain 2001 $79

Ridge Paso Robles is also excellent, about $24 here in the US.
