I have a nice insulated 3 bottle tote. I found apicture on the web (half way down the page). You can use it for 1, 2 or 3 bottles (or 2 mags). With the chill packs, it keeps things cold for many hours. It is light weight and easy to carry. Mine actually has the Jones Family logo on it, which of course makes it better, but...

ncvl,

Yeah, sure. But I had to carry YOUR case to your car because you were out in the back lot with Mrs. Null. The case was empty and still weighed a ton. Not for me!

empty?!?! that case had four bottles in it still.

Wine Safe

I have one and I believe Winetex does too. Call them and as for a factory blem and you can save some coin. Hands down the greatest case ever. Keeps baggage monkeys from damaging it. Flown with it several times. No breakage, and insulated from heat and cold damage.

I did exactly that. It just arrived via UPS a few minutes ago. Got the one with wheels and extendable handle, so it should make for easy carrying through airports.

Glad I'll have this baby for my Philly and Chicago trips! (Although to be honest, I don't think it will be big enough for the amount of wine I'll have to bring down).

Futronic - get your stories ready for what's in the box. People will ask you. It's kind of funny. Wine is usually not what they expect to hear.

I guess "drugs" would be a bad answer when asked by customs, eh?

Yeah, I'll start to think up a few. Although, I don't know what would be more fun, telling made up stories or watching the reaction on a person's face when you tell them it's wine. "Wine? In a case? Why? Good wine already comes in a box!"

Lol!

Would it be wrong to put a huge biohazard sticker on the outside of the case? I'm sure we've got some extras here in the lab.

You should get a pair of handcuffs and chain it to your wrist - I imagine the looks you get at the airport would be priceless!

I thought WineTex's original line was appropriate..."I'm a wine distributor". That is accurate on more levels than one.

For those of you that got the wine safe thingie -- do you have it checked as luggage then (which I assume is to be the case)? So it is all kewl to check that wth the really low temperatures in airline luggage ares on the planes? I figure it is probably OK, but just checking to be sure. Thinking about getting one of these behemoths for when I go back to Italy in 2008 or before. heh heh heh

The low temps are fine as it has quite a bit of insulation. The only concern is that when you are checking it as luggage that it weighs in under the weight allowance for a single bag. Otherwise they will charge you extra. Also the foreign airlines have somewhat lower wieght allowances. For future intl travel I am going to outfit a conventional bag with styro inserts as the box is just to big to lug into small cars, etc.

TJ,

I check wine frequently, with no problems. I assume there's some kind of heating in the luggage compartments, otherwise shampoos or other liquids would freeze (not to mention dogs).

Winetex,

A regular suitcase with styro inserts works great. I have an old, really beat up American Tourister softside that holds a 2x6 bottle shipper perfectly. When filled with a case of "normal" bottles (not Neal cabs), it weighs under 50 lbs so no excess baggage charges. The only problem is I haven't seen this style of shipper in some time, and I like to replace mine every few trips as the bottoms eventually break. I'm starting to save the 1x3 styro shippers for future replacements.

Use a Riedel carry bag with two glasses.

Don't go that far, nor expose wine to heat.
