| The 2001 Paloma Merlot WS WOTY continues to fetch ridiculous flip prices.
Question: IYO, in the next 2-4 years, will the "flip" value of this wine decrease, increase or stay relatively flat to current?

| | Agreed, the further away from the event causing a bubble in the commodity price, the less of an effect the event has on the price. Bad money will be chasing the next woty. | | | |

couldn't agree more. but the real question everyone should be asking, is when will WS name the COTY (coffee of the year)

| IMO because it is a Merlot it will probably decrease faster than a cab but because of the WOTY and high ratings it will keep the value high for this and increase value for all Paloma bottlings. | | | |

They'll need to consult with lcc won't they?

| Ha, ha… that’s funny, ormbee. A few issues ago, they talked about coffee also. They named the article, "All About Coffee". Check the name of the title in my Coffee-thread. Coincidence or conspiracy (plagiarism)?!? Hmmm, you decide. Indeed, I think not!
Come to think of it, wasn’t it me that started a Coffee-thread on WS site also? Can’t remember. But, I know I had a lot of posts in that Coffee-thread. My main partner in crime in that thread was Corkage (@ that time). Not even sure if it is there any more &/or if people still contribute to that thread @ all.

| The way I figured it, WS saw all the traffic on the VC coffee thread, and decided to glom onto the trend.

Decrease
Another question - What about the release price of the next Paloma Merlot (or the Paloma line in general), will that increase? and by how much??

| My prediction is that it will decrease.
Paloma doesn't have the pedigree that it needs to maintain the price in the market share (unless they follow it up with another WOTY for '04).
Look at Cinq Cepages. That wine was in demand for a long time. I don't know where it is now but there is certainly no big fuss when it is released.
Solia on the other hand has the pedigree. Their bottles are still in fairly high demand with the '96 still commanding a lot of attention.

| | I think Paloma will hold pricing within a few dollars. They have ALWAYS had a great wine and they are just now being recognized. Its sad. I will still be buying their wines year after year while people forget about them. | | "Everyday is worthy of a glass of sparkling wine" - Andrea Immer MS | |

| Same here winebrat. I was there on Sat and tried some 03' from the barrell and was as good as always. They also told me that they are going to stop bottling Syrah soon. I think 04' vintage is their last one? | | | |
